The requirement for takeoff and landing slots has been suspended at France’s Cannes-Mandelieu Airport during the winter months, but the slot system might be reintroduced next March.

Petaluma, Calif.-based Sunset Aviation is now operating as a standalone subsidiary of JetDirect Aviation, which acquired the light jet and turboprop operator last year. JetDirect will continue to offer business support, sales and marketing services, but Sunset will operate as an independent Part 135 air carrier, with Sunset founder Dan Drohan serving as president and CEO, according to JetDirect senior vice president of marketing Gil Wolin.
UBS Investment Research’s business jet report–released yesterday–shows that business jet flight activity was 13 percent lower last month compared with the same period last year, although the data was slightly better than the 18-percent year-over-year decline in August. Year-to-date, flight activity is down 9 percent.
Bombardier Aerospace today said it flew a Global 5000 testbed with an all-electric braking system, which the Canadian company claims is a civil aviation first. The testing lasted more than seven hours and included five landings and a series of high-speed braked ground runs. The demonstrator aircraft was equipped with Meggitt’s EBrake electric braking system and Messier-Dowty’s landing gear with electric brake wiring harnesses.
Testing under way at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards AFB in California is aiming to prove whether pilots can use high-definition video cameras and LCD monitors to take off and land a supersonic business jet (SSBJ) in lieu of natural forward vision.
