The Salina (Kan.) Airport Authority today announced plans to build a new 69,000-sq-ft hangar and office complex in anticipation of continued growth at the SLN Aviation Service Center. “The Salina Airport Authority is constructing an all-new hangar and office facility as a key element of our long-term growth strategy,” noted SLN executive director Tim Rogers.

The FAA issued a request for comment on proposed airworthiness standards for certification of the Bell/Agusta BA609–“a multi-turbine-engine powered-lift category, tiltrotor class aircraft”–under FAR 21.17(b), which specifies applicable regulations for special classes of aircraft for which airworthiness standards do not yet exist.

The NTSB determined Tuesday that the probable cause of the Dec. 5, 2005 landing overrun of a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 at Chicago Midway Airport was the pilots' failure to use reverse thrust to slow the airplane after landing. This occurred because the pilots' lack of experience with the airplane's autobrake system distracted them from using the thrust reversers, the Safety Board said.

Brazil's aircraft investigation board, Cenipa, won't release its report on the Embraer Legacy 600/Gol Airlines Boeing 737-800 midair until early next month, but many of the report's details have already been leaked to São Paulo-based daily newspaper Folha de São Paulo. All 154 aboard the Gol airliner were killed when the two aircraft collided at FL370 over Brazil's Amazon jungle, but the damaged Legacy landed safely.
