Wayne Rizzi, president of Los Angeles-based aircraft charter broker Air Royale International, yesterday resigned as the U.S. chapter president of UK-based Baltic Air Charter Association (BACA), saying the group isn’t willing to implement guidelines that would “raise standards in the air charter broker community.” Air Royale also has an office in London.

BAE Systems and Quest International of the UK have combined to launch a cabin air system that they say can destroy airborne viruses and bacteria, including swine flu, Sars, bird flu and eColi. AirManager has been flight tested on BAE 146/Avro RJ regional airliners operated by five European carriers, and has been selected by one undisclosed carrier for its fleet.

The FAA yesterday issued a Safety Alert for Operators (SAFO) that addresses pilot fatigue countermeasures in Part 121 and 135 short-haul operations, though the information is also pertinent to Part 91, 91K fractional and 135 on-demand charter operators.

Honeywell yesterday received TSO approval for SmartRunway and SmartLanding, which are both software upgrades for the company’s Mark V and Mark VII enhanced ground proximity warning systems (EGPWS) that can help reduce runway excursions and incursions. The systems require just one hour of aircraft downtime for installation and minimal pilot training, Honeywell said.
