In a letter sent on Wednesday to FAA Flight Standards Service director James Ballough, the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) conveyed its concerns about the progress of the Part 91K/125/135 takeoff and landing performance assessment aviation rulemaking committee (ARC).

The Transportation Security Administration on Friday released two sets of voluntary general aviation security action items (SAI) for FBOs and aircraft operators. The guidance documents do not constitute regulatory requirements and are based on a previously issued TSA publication. The agency noted that most of the measures recommended in the SAIs were included in the TSA’s “Security Guidelines for General Aviation Airports” dated May 2004.

The city of Santa Monica, Calif., expects that the next step in its ongoing battle over runway restrictions at Santa Monica Airport (SMO) will be oral arguments later this year or early next year. Last week the city filed a reply brief in the Ninth Circuit court challenging the preliminary injunction and FAA interim cease-and-desist order, which prevented the city from implementing a ban on category C and D aircraft operations at the airport.

The break up of Sentient’s jet-card and charter divisions announced on August 13 was finalized over the weekend, according to the two companies involved in the deal. Macquarie Global Opportunities Partners today said it completed the acquisition of the jet membership, retail charter and fuel management business units previously owned by Sentient Jet Holdings.

Temporary flight restrictions remain in place around Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), New Orleans Lakefront (NEW) and parts of Southeast Louisiana, following yesterday’s landfall of Hurricane Gustav. The Category II storm battered the Gulf Coast with 110-mph winds and prompted the FAA to issue TFRs throughout Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas.
