Marshall Aerospace announced yesterday that it purchased Beechcraft’s flagship European maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) business, Hawker Beechcraft Ltd. The facilities were also known as Hawker Beechcraft Services Chester and had provided a full range of Hawker and Beechcraft maintenance, modification, paint and upgrade services for more than 50 years.

Business aviation services group Comlux will complete the relocation of its main holding company from Switzerland to Malta with the formal opening on Thursday of its new headquarters on the Mediterranean island.
AgustaWestland and Russian Helicopters signed an agreement last week at the MAKS airshow in Moscow for the joint design and development of a new light single-engine helicopter. The 50-50 joint program was first announced by the partners about a year ago.
The preliminary assessment of the 5,600-pound helicopter’s technical design is expected to be completed “in the next few months.” It is being designed for the worldwide market and a “wide range” of applications, the companies said.
California’s Van Nuys Airport celebrated the completion of a seven-month, $20.5 million renovation on its main runway late last week. Aerobatic pilot Sean Tucker sliced the ceremonial ribbon with the speeding wing of his Challenger biplane, officially opening the revamped runway to traffic.

FlightSafety International announced a “significant” expansion of the training the company offers for Cessna Citations and Caravans at its learning centers in Orlando, Fla.; San Antonio and Wichita. This includes training for the full Citation Excel/XLS series in Orlando, including a new level-D XLS+ sim outfitted with Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics; addition of the only existing CJ2+ simulator in San Antonio; and a Cessna Caravan simulator equipped with a Garmin G600 avionics suite that just came online in Wichita.
Android-based devices are the least secure platforms for pilot electronic flight bags and onboard entertainment systems, according to EFB and cabin avionics solutions provider Allegient Systems. The company cited a recent DHS/FBI study showing that 79 percent of mobile device malware/viruses are for the Google Android operating system, due to its market share and open-source architecture.
Southern England-based business aircraft sales, charter and management firm ConnectJets has been awarded the UK dealership for the Piaggio Aero Avanti II. As such, it is now the dealer for the twin turboprop in the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. ConnectJets said it will soon announce a partner so it can launch a shared-ownership program later this year for Avanti II clients throughout the UK and aforementioned self-governing Crown dependencies.
The Baltic Air Charter Association (BACA) is holding seminars at two aviation events in the UK this month. The first seminar will address charter brokerage and operator issues during the Business Aircraft Europe Expo and Conference, which will be held September 11 and 12 at London Biggin Hill Airport. The second seminar will be held in conjunction with the British Business and General Aviation Association (BBGA) on September 17 at the British and General Aviation Day at Cambridge Airport.
Jet Aviation has extended its facilities at Berlin Tegel International Airport to include a new customer lounge and crew briefing offices at Tegel’s general aviation center. The expansion is in response to customer demand for full ground-handling services at Tegel, it said. The company opened its Berlin FBO in February to provide FBO services at Schönefeld and Tegel International Airports. The new customer lounge and crew briefing offices at Tegel are in addition to Jet Aviation’s existing crew and passenger lounge and operations office at Schönefeld.
