The EASA has issued a new emergency AD on the Eurocopter EC225, requiring crews to land or ditch immediately if the main gearbox’s back-up lubrication system activates. “Investigations on the [emergency lubrication] system have revealed an area of the flight envelope in which the [system’s] performance is different from that assumed during certification,” the EASA said. The system was designed to allow for 30 minutes of flight after loss of oil lubrication.

Dassault Falcon Jet announced yesterday that it will increase the size of its completion center in Little Rock, Ark., “to accommodate future Falcons,” the first of which will likely be the Falcon SMS now in development. Dassault Falcon Jet has said it delivered 66 business jets last year and “expects that number to increase in the coming years.” The company plans to invest $60 million in new construction and refurbishment of existing facilities. The new construction will include 250,000 sq ft dedicated to production and completion facilities and a 14-bay hangar.

Rectrix Commercial Aviation Services acquired APP Jet Center’s FBO at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport earlier this week for an undisclosed cash amount. The move consolidates the Massachusetts-based company’s holdings at the Gulf Coast Florida airport while reducing the number of service providers there to two. Rectrix is in the midst of a growth spurt, having purchased fellow Massachusetts-based aviation services and maintenance provider AirFlyte in January.

Bombardier’s Flexjet subsidiary reported a strong first quarter, led by growth in new buyers as well as higher levels of activity by existing fractional-share, jet card and lease customers. In the first quarter, new business was up 83 percent, fractional share sales up 108 percent and jet card sales up 48 percent over the same period last year. “Our flying is not only up with all the new sales,” said Flexjet president Deanna White, “but also our existing customers are ramping up their flying time.

The Jet Centre at London City Airport (LCY) is set to conclude a $500,000 renovation of its passenger facility next month. Aimed at streamlining the passenger experience, the improvements, such as a relocated entrance adjacent to the car park and a new layout to facilitate interaction between staff and customers, allow the facility now to offer a “60-second plane-to-car” arrival pledge. Other additions include a new crew facility, private guest meeting room and an updated customs and security screening facility.

AFHSH, the French Association of doctors who use helicopter EMS, has proposed using trained paramedics to satisfy new European rules that will mandate a second crewmember for HEMS operations beginning in October next year. According to the association, the additional cost of a second pilot would be prohibitive for hospitals. Therefore, it proposes training a paramedic for those missions when a “second pair of eyes” is needed in the front seats, but only in VMC.

Gulfstream Aerospace signed an exclusive spare parts consignment agreement with aviation services provider Air Works India Engineering, the Savannah, Ga.-based business jet manufacturer announced yesterday. Under the agreement, Gulfstream can position frequently needed aircraft replacement parts at Air Works’ warehouse on the outskirts of India’s Bengaluru International Airport, while Air Works arranges for parts warehousing, customs clearance and delivery to customers.
