Issuing a rule to improve the security of domestic and foreign repair stations should be one of the first duties of recently confirmed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson, according to industry representatives. December marks the 10th anniversary of President George W. Bush signing into law a bill requiring the issuance of such regulations.

When tornados and storms ripped through central Illinois on November 17, Chicago-based Jet Support Services (JSSI) organized an employee donation match initiative for the victims.

“So many of us felt a connection with these specific tornado victims because they are less than 200 miles away from our corporate headquarters in Chicago,” Frank Hattula, director of human resources for JSSI, told AIN.

Ruag Aviation has plans to open a helicopter facility at Sion Airport in western Switzerland. Initially the facility will focus on the maintenance, repair and overhaul of Sikorsky S-76s, with planned growth to include more types in the future.

Amac Aerospace has successfully completed a 16-year/192-month structural inspection on a Gulfstream V at its hangar in Basel, Switzerland. The project included repetitive eight-year/96-month inspection tasks.

Bell Helicopter has received approval by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to perform maintenance and customization on Bell 206s, 407s and 429s under the certification of Transport Canada. The authorization includes scheduled and unscheduled maintenance; inspections, repair or recertification; component replacement; incorporating airworthiness directives, service bulletins and technical bulletins; incorporating STCs or servicing instructions; and helicopter disassembly and re-assembly.

Cessna Aircraft is commemorating the 20th anniversary of its Greensboro Citation Service Center at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C. It is one of the busiest in the network of 15 company-owned service centers and this year handled approximately 2,500 service orders for aircraft based in or traveling through the mid-Atlantic U.S. The facility doubled its original ramp area in 2008 and in recent years stationed mobile service units within the Greensboro service area.

PPG Industries has expanded its aerospace business operations in Japan with the relocation of its application support center to a site in Miyoshi that supports increased production capacity, adds warehouse space and affords new service capabilities. The new site in Miyoshi Kurozasa Industrial Park includes a 21,400-sq-ft manufacturing facility and office as well as a 9,500-sq-ft standalone on-site warehouse.

Web Manuals, a developer of “knowledge-management solutions” for the aviation industry, announced that GlobeAir has signed on to the company’s cloud-based compliance application, Web Manuals 4 Draken. Web Manuals provides the tools for end-to-end compliance automation by business jet operators, airlines, maintenance and repair organizations, airports and ground handling agents. The Web Manuals application enables the authoring, publishing, distribution and control of the entire manuals library.

Nordam CEO Meredith Siegfried announced that Hastings Siegfried will relocate to Singapore as COO, Asia-Pacific sales and technical services. Siegfried moves up from vice chairman and COO of the company’s transparency division and will retain his role as vice chairman of the Nordam board. Siegfried has extensive international experience in bringing many successful new programs to the transparency division. Before that he served as the repair division general manager.

GA Telesis Composite Repair Group has appointed David LeClair as vice president of Service Sales. LeClair has more than 20 years of management experience in the aviation aftermarket distribution and commercial MRO marketplace. In his new capacity, LeClair will be responsible for further developing nacelle repair strategies. “David will enhance and lead our efforts to build upon our established customer partnership programs through his expert depth and program knowledge essential to the MRO business,” said Russell Bonnell, president MRO Business Units Americas.
