Gulfstream Aerospace will break ground on a new product-support distribution center in Savannah, Ga, late this month or early next. It is scheduled to enter service early next year. The new facility, announced yesterday, will house more than 300 employees and approximately $900 million in parts and materials inventory.

The Gulfstream G280 is the latest addition to Jet Support Services’ Tip-to-Tail hourly-cost maintenance program. The program, which covers the engines, airframe and APU, offers G280 operators a single-source maintenance solution.

Norwich-based KLM UK Engineering has opened a facility dedicated to dismantling and recycling aircraft. The center is one of only a few in Europe.

The MRO is already licensed to service aircraft from the day they enter service, and this new dismantling operation positions the MRO to offer “cradle-to-grave” service over an aircraft’s potential life of 20 years or 18 million air miles.

The company works mostly with Boeing 737s, Airbus A320s and BAe 146/Avro RJs.

A Falcon 7X and three other corporate aircraft have moved into anew 40,000-sq-ft hangar bay at Duncan Aviation’s facility in Lincoln, Neb.

“The hangar opened a few weeks ahead of schedule,” said airframe services manager Chad Doerhing. “We worked to complete it sooner because of the sheer volume of aircraft we have moving through our facility right now.”

Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services North America (HS-NA), a subsidiary of Vector Aerospace, has signed a five-year, exclusive MRO support contract with Blackcomb Aviation, a privately owned helicopter and jet charter company.

Constant Aviation has been awarded the Aruba certificate of acceptance. The certification authorizes Constant’s Cleveland facility to perform and sign off maintenance for any Aruban-registered aircraft. A large maintenance inspection including an avionics upgrade for an Aruban operator led the company to obtain the certificate of acceptance.

Aviation Training Academy (ATA) announced FAA approval for IA renewal credits: hazardous materials awareness training online, general aviation fire safety online and human factors. The human factors course is not currently available online but will be later this year. According to ATA, all courses meet the latest industry training standards for aviation support personnel, and Aviation Training Academy certification is provided at the successful completion of each course.

Associated Air Center (AAC) has been awarded the interior completion contract for a green Boeing 787-8 BBJ. The aircraft interior is already under full design review. AAC has also kicked off detailed planning, staffing and training in anticipation of delivery of the green aircraft from Boeing in the middle of this year. The aircraft offers 2,404 sq ft of cabin floor area and a range of 9,590 nm; the larger 787-9 BBJ offers 2,762 sq ft of cabin space and a range of 9,950 nm.

Rockwell Collins has named Craig Olson vice president and general manager for business and regional systems. He succeeds Jeff Standerski, who was recently named senior vice president for information management services. Olson will report to Kent Statler, executive vice president and COO of commercial systems. Olson has more than 27 years of service with Rockwell Collins and has held multiple leadership positions, including his previous role as senior director and site leader of the company’s head-up guidance systems business, based in Wilsonville, Ore.

The FAA is proposing to adopt a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A engines. The proposed AD was prompted by in-service events involving the perforation of engine cases as a result of the liberation of power-turbine blades and the fracture/displacement of the power-turbine containment ring.
