Piper Aircraft’s single-engine PiperJet flew for the first time today, taking off from Piper headquarters at Vero Beach (Fla.) International Airport. It is the company’s first jet in its 71-year history and a large-cabin contender in the growing single-engine jet market. Piloted by Dave Schwartz in the left seat and Buddy Sessoms in the right seat, the PiperJet lifted off from Runway 29 at 11:11 a.m. EDT for a one-hour flight.
John Rahilly, principal of Rahilly Aviation Associates and former president of maintenance and completions center K-C Aviation, has joined ServiceElements as a training facilitator and strategist. While retaining his own company, Rahilly will aid ServiceElements in helping clients improve the quality of their customer service.

Gulfstream this month logged its 10,000th downlink via its PlaneConnect maintenance datalink system. There are about 135 large-cabin Gulfstreams using PlaneConnect, according to Gulfstream.
Minden, Nev.-based Maintenance On Reliable Engines (More Co.) received approval from the FAA for its instructions for continued airworthiness to extend the time between overhaul (TBO) for seven Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A engine models. More Co. is the holder of eight FAA STCs for TBO extension programs on PT6As ranging from the -11 through -45R and -110 through -135A.
In a demonstration of how congressional mandates force lawmakers to come to grips with reality, the process of granting Part 145 repair station certificates to companies outside the U.S. has ground to a halt. Last August, Congress passed the “9/11 Recommendation Implementation Act of 2007,” part of which mandated that the TSA create new security rules for foreign repair stations.
