The world commercial aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) market will reach a value of $49.2 billion this year, according to recent market research conducted by Visiongain. The commercial aircraft MRO market is forecast by Visiongain to experience growth over the next decade, providing numerous business opportunities.

Flying Colours, a Canada-based completions, refurbishment and maintenance specialist, has expanded its CRJ conversion program beyond executive aircraft. It is now a third of the way through a schedule that will see eight CRJ200s converted into 16-seat executive shuttle configuration for an undisclosed client. The complete shuttle conversion sees each aircraft fitted with new business-jet seats, a new executive shell kit, upgraded galley, refurbished first-class lavatory, and SwiftBroadband installation.
Qatar Airways’ private jet division, Qatar Executive, has been granted Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) regulatory approvals to conduct base maintenance services for Bombardier’s Challenger604/605 and Global series. To meet anticipated demand, the MRO has expanded its service offering with heavy maintenance checks at its nearly 70,000-sq-ft dedicated hangar at Doha International Airport.
Aviation Partners has issued a Service Bulletin for the Hawker Beechcraft/BAE 125 Series 800A/B, C-29A, Hawker 800 and Hawker 800XP. The Service Bulletin provides instructions to reduce the maximum permissible altitude to FL340 from FL410. The altitude limitation is implemented by an Airplane Flight Manual limitation and placards installed on the instrument panel.
Aviation Partners and the FAA consider this Service Bulletin to be a safety-related limitation until a design change to preclude the oscillations is developed and FAA approved.
Internationally there is a platinum service center in Istanbul, a gold in Germany and additional gold and silver service centers to come.
Currently Eclipses are certified in 49 countries, and Eclipse Aerospace CEO Mason Holland told AIN, “We are in the third quarter for the Eclipse 550 so we’re focused on support.”
Sikorsky Aerospace Services has signed a teaming agreement with Wiking Kale Air to establish a Sikorsky-authorized customer service center (CSC) in Turkey.
GA Telesis and Finnair have entered into an agreement in which GA Telesis has acquired part of Finnair Engine Services and will employ 80 engine-service professionals from Finnair’s existing workforce. The deal comprises the sale of assets and transfer of personnel to GA Telesis Engine Services (Gates). Gates has simultaneously entered into a long-term lease of all of the engine maintenance and test cell facilities from Finnair.
Moline, Ill.-based Elliott Aviation has promoted Greg Sahr to president from vice president of sales, marketing and business development. In his new role, Sahr will focus on strengthening the company’s brand, enhancing the customer experience, increasing efficiencies, solidifying industry partnerships and developing new business opportunities. Sahr started as an avionics installer at ElectroSonics and progressed through several sales leadership positions at ElectroSonics’ successor companies.
The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Twin Commander 690s, 690As and 690Bs. It requires inspection for cracking of the outer fuselage attachments, the lower wing main spar, the vertical channels, the upper picture window channels, aft cabin pressure web, external wing-to-fuselage fillets and fasteners; repair or replacement of damaged parts as necessary; and modification of the structure with reinforced parts.
AJW Aviation has appointed Satvendar (Sam) Singh as chief commercial officer. He will be based in the Singapore office. Singh previously worked at Mubadala Aerospace MRO Network/SR Technics Switzerland, Singapore Airlines Engineering, ExecuJet Aviation Group and Pratt & Whitney/United Technologies, where he managed supply chain and logistics in California. Singh holds a bachelor of law degree, certificate in legal practice and an MBA in finance.
