Aircell’s new nationwide wireless content delivery network, Gogo Cloud, allows customers of Aircell’s Gogo Vision to automatically receive the latest updates whenever they visit a Gogo Cloud location. When an aircraft arrives at a Gogo Cloud location, Aircell’s UCS 5000 system automatically connects to the Gogo Cloud Wi-Fi signal and performs a complete content update. The transfer takes place in typically less than 60 seconds for a 30-minute TV episode, and about three minutes for a feature-length movie.
New Citations are being equipped with the Cessna Diagnostic Maintenance System (CDMS). The system integrates event-driven and full-time data recording that provides maintenance needs on the pilot’s multi-function display and pushes the data to the aircraft’s service center.
Battelle has developed a robotic system to repair aircraft windows combining the company’s existing automated maintenance robot and a manual method of transparency restoration.
As a result of weathering and microfracturing, acrylic aircraft windows tend to craze within three to seven years, turning a clear surface into a milky, opaque one that can severely limit vision. The existing process of restoring windows to their original clarity requires technicians to hand buff out the scratches and crazing, a process that takes a significant amount of training, skill and time.
Gulfstream Aerospace has added three specially outfitted Field and Airborne Support Team (Fast) vehicles to its support network. The new rapid-response Gulfstream Fast vehicles are based at Van Nuys Airport near Los Angeles, William P. Hobby Airport in Houston and New York-area Teterboro Airport.
Each vehicle has a team of two or three technicians and is designed to support operators facing an AOG. Onboard capabilities include line service repairs, engine changes, post-flight and storage inspections, minor scheduled inspections and minor cabin interior repairs.
StandardAero Business Aviation has entered into an agreement with Embraer to support the Legacy 450/500 at StandardAero’s Augusta, Ga., Houston, and Los Angeles facilities. It supplements an existing agreement with Embraer as an authorized service center for the Legacy 600/650.
Beechcraft signed an agreement with Pratt & Whitney Canada for the latter to support the PT6A-60A engines powering the King Air 350i recently ordered by private aviation membership company Wheels Up. BizJet International has begun working on its first Rolls-Royce Tay 611-8C engine for an unspecified customer. “We are well under way in achieving a significant services role with the induction of our first two Rolls-Royce Tay 611-8C midlife inspections and completing the first half of correlating our test cell for the -8C,” said Criss Berry, BizJet’s vice president for engine services. BizJet will deliver the completed engines to the customer next month.
Rockwell Collins introduced Airshow 500, which it calls the first 3-D moving map system for light business jets. The new solution comes with worldwide maps and many other standard features, including passenger-selectable languages and settings. It is a modernized, lighter-weight drop-in replacement for the Airshow 410. It is compatible with legacy monitors as well as newer widescreen monitors with digital inputs. Airshow 500 is also available in a flange-mount option to meet any aircraft installation requirement.
Lufthansa Technik is introducing its environmentally friendly clear varnish to the business jet completion market. Like all the other materials used in aircraft construction, the high-gloss polished wooden surfaces that are typically installed in aircraft cabins have to meet safety standards set by the aviation authorities. For optical purposes and to comply with fire protection regulations, these surfaces have to be treated with effective flame retardants and clear varnishes containing a high proportion of organic solvents.
