Fifty-seven years later, DaimlerChrysler found a Ford in its future, and an Edsel as well, when the great-grandson of Henry Ford bought DaimlerChrysler Aviation in 2001. Today, Edsel B. Ford II, 47, still chuckles from time to time at the irony of a Ford owning the company that began in 1964 as Chrysler Air Transportation.

This month marks 75 years of service at Mercer County Airport in Trenton, N.J. (TTN). On October 26 the airport will host a celebration marking the grand opening air fair at the facility on that date in 1929. The star-studded aerial event drew 30,000 aviation enthusiasts to the airport that Saturday.

Hangar space in Silicon Valley increased by 47,000 sq ft this summer when San Jose Jet Center opened its new terminal/hangar complex known as Hangar E. The project broke ground at San Jose International Airport (SJC) in September last year and construction was completed in June. The new hangar has enough floor space to accommodate eight Gulfstream V- or Global Express-size aircraft, and has the necessary 28-foot doors as well.

Castle Aviation, a Northeast Ohio charter and air cargo operator, began operations as an FBO at Akron-Canton (Ohio) Regional Airport (CAK) in June. A new terminal building is under construction, scheduled for completion in December.

Attorneys for Midwest Jet Center at Cincinnati Lunken Field (LUK) called a city audit “a gross error” when the financial investigation claimed the FBO should repay some $288,000 in fuel-flowage fees it charged other airport tenants. Aircraft operators are charged an airport fee of 12 cents per gallon for fuel from either of LUK’s two FBOs, Midwest and Million Air.

For all those who have struggled to locate the Mercury Air Centers FBO at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)–both airside and streetside–relief is at hand. Mercury has moved its operation at LAX to a new, larger site that encompasses more than 15 acres at the midfield point on the south side of the airport. According to Mercury, the new location is much more easily accessible from both the I-105 Freeway and Sepulveda Boulevard.
