Helicopter Association International’s first-responder database has more than 250 helicopters registered since it became operational last July. HAI formed the database in response to communications gaps that came to light after 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The database is designed to allow government agencies to quickly identify and request specific helicopters in the hours and days following a national emergency.

The FAA will transition to e-mail distribution of ADs and special airworthiness information bulletins (SAIBs) and eliminate mailed paper versions. Starting next month, interested parties will be able to sign up on the FAA’s RGL Web site (http://rgl.faa.gov/) to receive ADs and SAIBs via e-mail. The agency plans to phase out paper copies by July.

Cessna said last month it will increase production of its Citation X by more than 65 percent from 2006 to 2010, to meet “growing demand,” primarily from non-U.S. buyers. Effective March 25 all general aviation aircraft are required to have slots for landings and takeoffs at London Luton Airport. The privately owned airport has said that it has had to introduce the requirement to be able to “better manage the flow of ad hoc traffic.” It has emphasized that it does not wish to discourage business aviation traffic.

Honda Aircraft officials have decided to outsource manufacture of major portions of the HondaJet, including the fuselage and wings. The company also reiterated its plans to equip the HondaJet with a Garmin avionics suite, naming Garmin the official supplier of a system “tailored for the HondaJet.”

In what is being described as the largest money-laundering investigation in Alaska’s history, Mark Avery, the former owner of Anchorage-based air charter and medevac operator Security Aviation, has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $52 million from a charity organization. Avery, a trustee and lawyer for the May and Stanley Smith Charitable Trust, pleaded guilty on March 6 to five counts of wire fraud and 10 counts of money laundering.
