Wilson Air Center has quietly acquired Fletcher Aviation at Houston Hobby Airport (HOU). Wilson’s Memphis facility has rated at the top of AIN’s FBO Survey for the past six years, and owner Bob Wilson recently signed on as the contract FBO for the airport authority at Charlotte-Douglas (N.C.) International Airport, where a new facility is under construction.

Signature Flight Support announced November 2 a single purchase involving two FBOs: Long Beach Million Air and another at Oxnard Airport near Santa Barbara. The facility at Oxnard will serve as a reliever to Signature’s busy operation at Santa Barbara Municipal Airport.

Avitat Westchester has begun an 18-month extensive facelift for its existing acility at Westchester County Airport, in White Plains, N.Y. The new facility will include a 21,000-sq-ft, two-story terminal, tenant offices, crew facilities, maintenance shops and storage facilities, as well as mprovements to the existing 23,760-sq-ft hangar.

Using temporary buildings and skid-mounted fuel tanks, Million Air reopened for business October 19 at New Orleans Lakefront Airport (NEW). The FBO’s hangar and terminal building were severely damaged by high winds and flooding from Hurricane Katrina on August 28. Runways, taxiways and ramps at Lakefront have been declared safe to use, albeit for daytime operation only, according to Addie Fanguy, Million Air general manager.

Five FBOs and a New York City heliport have joined the Atlantic Aviation chain en masse, bringing the network to a total of 18 locations. The new FBO locations include Burlington, Vt.; Gulfport, Miss.; Louisville, Ky.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Wilmington, Del. The deal also includes the East 34th Street Heliport in New York City.

As I prepared to pen yet another article dealing with winter operations, the realization hit me that we will likely have ice-related accidents. It seems that every winter we are peppered with articles dealing with many of the issues that need to be addressed to maintain safe flight under some challenging conditions.

Eclipse Aviation has chosen Albany International Airport as the site for its new northeast factory service center. The company plans to have seven domestic factory service centers and has previously nounced locations in Albuquerque, N.M., and Gainesville, Fla.

Jet Aviation Boston/Bedford is enhancing aircraft maintenance support by adding weekend service hours and expanding its mobile maintenance assistance. Clients can now receive technical and mechanical aircraft care from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Monday and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Pratt & Whitney Canada CSC (Africa) is offering engine overhaul services following an expansion project at its South Africa facility located at the Lanseria International Airport in Johannesburg. The facility now offers comprehensive engine overhaul services for the PT6A.

As part of Duncan Aviation’s 50th-anniversary celebration, the company has released a collection of songs from 1956 performed by Duncan Aviation team members. Titled Chart Topping Hits of ’56, the release will be distributed to each of the company’s employees and customers at industry trade shows and special celebration events at most of the company’s U.S. locations.
