German interiors specialist Lufthansa Technik will be providing its network integrated cabin equipment (Nice) system to Bombardier as standard equipment on the Canadian manufacturer’s Challenger 300. Nice is a digital-based cabin-management and entertainment package that includes an iPod docking station to stream the audio output.

Midcoast Aviation in East Cahokia, Ill., is offering customers BlackBerry connectivity. The company, based at St. Louis Downtown Airport, has already installed equipment to allow in-flight BlackBerry use in a Gulfstream IV and two Bombardier Global Expresses.

Cutter Aviation celebrated the opening of the new crew lounge and flight-planning/business center at its FBO at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The crew lounge is equipped with a 60-inch plasma tv, stadium seating with La-Z-Boy recliners and two sound-insulated sleep rooms. From the business center pilots can see into the lounge and the FBO’s three entrance doors.

On October 16, Encore FBO’s Frederick, Md. FBO opened its doors to more than 300 students, faculty and parents from high schools in Maryland and nearby states for its second annual Aviation Education Expo. Sponsored by Encore FBO, Avemco Insurance and AOPA, the expo introduced students to opportunities in a variety of aviation segments.

Business Jet Center’s Oakland, Calif. FBO added a new 15,000-sq-ft hangar and nearly 33,000 sq ft of ramp space to its leasehold. The FBO, which opened in 2003 in the renovated 1920s airport terminal building on the North Field side of the airport, now features more than 100,000 sq ft of hangar, maintenance and office space.

Up-and-coming FBO company Maguire Aviation is now the largest leaseholder at Van Nuys Airport in Southern California, having bought the former Million Air FBO in early October. Maguire purchased Petersen Aviation on the south side of the airport a year earlier and recently added the former Disney (Air Shamrock) hangar on the west side of the airport.

Business jet operators in the Washington, D.C. area now have another option, the new ProJet Aviation facility at Winchester Regional Airport in Virginia. ProJet isn’t an FBO but offers aircraft management services and consulting from a new office and hangar complex at the Winchester airport. Phase 1 of the ProJet facility is done, and Phase 2 will see completion of ProJet’s new 26,400-sq-ft jet center.

Hamid Hashemi’s LAH Aviation Holdings purchased Avitat Boca Raton from Muvico Theaters on October 30. Avitat Boca Raton isn’t planning any short-term changes to its 17,000-sq-ft terminal and 75,000 sq ft of hangar space, but Hashemi is planning to build an on-premises high-end restaurant and an office building, according to an LAH spokesman.

In addition to buying Carolina Air Center on South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island in September, Signature Flight Support has also purchased Marathon Flight Services at Kissimmee Gateway Airport in Florida. Signature now has 83 FBOs worldwide, including 47 in the U.S. The Kissimmee FBO features a 7,000-sq-ft canopy that offers passengers and crews protection from the hot Florida sunshine and occasional rainshowers.
