The FAA will begin testing digital Notam distribution in January at Southern California Tracon and ATC towers in Amarillo, Texas; Boise, Idaho; Denver; and Tallahassee, Fla. “Digital Notams should reduce human error; allow more timely and accurate distribution of information; standardize content, policy and procedures; and balance diverse customer needs,” said the FAA.

Canada’s Transportation Safety Board (TSB) last month released the final report on the landing accident of a Bombardier Global 5000 in Fox Harbour, Nova Scotia, on Nov. 11, 2007. Ten people were injured after the Global touched down short of the 4,885-foot runway.

New FAA regulations took effect last month to separate air traffic in the Hudson River VFR corridor on the west side of Manhattan. These regulations are a result of the August 8 midair between a Piper Lance and a tour helicopter.

Business aircraft activity in October climbed 5.14 percent over September, according to Aviation Research Group/U.S. (ARG/US), and was 2.5 percent higher than October 2008. Turboprop activity led the field, with an improvement of 9.1 percent. Part 91 operations climbed the most overall at 5.9 percent, and Part 135 operations saw a 0.7-percent increase. All-aircraft fractional operations declined by 5.9 percent.
