Jet Aviation has launched the Jet Response mobile maintenance service program with mobile maintenance vehicles based at Boston/Bedford, Mass., and Teterboro airports. The service targets AOG operators in the Boston, White Plains and Teterboro areas. The trucks contain a fully functional workshop and benches complete with electronic data and supplies.

Using integrated satellite-based tracking to keep tabs on its worldwide AOG personnel and assets, BBA Aviation Engine Repair and Overhaul is now offering fast-response AOG service. The company’s F1rst Support global technical operations center, located at Dallas Airmotive’s facility in Grapevine, Texas, is staffed by field service technical managers who specialize in all engine product lines serviced by Dallas Airmotive.
Hartzell Propeller has received an FAA type certificate for its new advanced-composite ASC-II four-blade propeller. It is the company’s first
ASC-II propeller developed for turboprop aircraft.
Hartzell developed its first composite blade in 1978 principally out of aramid fiber. According to the company, it was the first composite propeller ever certified by the FAA.
Indian low-fare carrier SpiceJet plans to buy as many as 30 Q400 turboprops from Bombardier in a deal worth up to $900 million.
“The [SpiceJet] board has approved a firm order for 15 and 15 on option,” SpiceJet CEO Neil Mills told AIN. “It has gone to the aircraft review committee and we expect to sign the agreement most probably by the end of [November]. We expect the deliveries to commence from June 2011.
Embraer expects to achieve a commercial aircraft book-to-bill ratio of a little more than one this year, reflecting solid demand from an airline market that continues to show definitive signs of a sustained, if not robust, recovery.
Not everyone agrees with the regional airlines’ assertion that they fly just as safely as their mainline counterparts. With this perception and several specific accidents in mind, the NTSB convened a symposium in late October to shed more light on airline code-sharing arrangements and their role in aviation safety.
It certainly won’t send an aviation enthusiast’s heart racing like the promise of nimble flying characteristics or technical wizardry in the cockpit, but how an OEM supports its product after the sale perhaps means as much to an airline as any performance specification one might care to name.
Republic Airways signed a firm order last month for six Embraer E190s, all of which it plans to deploy with its Denver-based Frontier Airlines subsidiary between August and December of next year. The companies also concluded negotiations on a conditional order for another 18 E190s and/or E195s. Embraer expects the conditional order to become firm by April 15 next year.
An ATR 72-212 turboprop operated by Cuba’s Aero Caribbean crashed on November 4 in the central Cuban province of Sancti Spiritus, killing all 61 passengers and seven crewmembers. Flight 883, en route from Santiago de Cuba to Havana, lost contact with air traffic controllers at about 5:40 local time, after declaring “an emergency situation.”
