Moscow-based Tekhnoavia, an aircraft design house, delivered two piston SM-2000s in December and one turboprop SM-2000T last month. The trio of aircraft went to a Russian customer.

The GM-17 Viper project is in serious jeopardy following several recent developments. The GM-17 is a modified Piper P Navajo on which the two wing-mounted 425-hp piston engines are replaced by a single 750-shp Walter M601E turboprop placed in the redesigned forward fuselage.
The NTSB, which has long called for the FAA to require cockpit voice recorders on smaller turbine airplanes, is now calling for the installation of so-called “video image recorders.” Such recorders obtain not only audio information like that from CVRs and event data like that from FDRs, but also information about the environment outside the cockpit window.
Kidde portable fire extinguishers that have been determined to be faulty must be replaced in some 39,000 aircraft, according to a recent AD. The manufacturer said the units involved “do not represent a safety problem,” even though they do not comply with technical requirements. The affected extinguishers (P/N 898052 with S/Ns from V-432001 to W-389653 and built between 1995 and 2002) exceed the maximum allowable discharge time of 10 seconds.
As the result of requests to extend the deadline for comments on the FAA’s proposal to establish regulations governing flights that go beyond certain distances from an adequate airport (extended operations, or ETOPS) by multi-engine airplanes, the FAA has expanded the comment period. The notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) was published on November 13, and comments were due by January 13. The new comment period extends to March 15.
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) last month adopted proposed changes to its rules governing the legal rates and timing of travel payments by political candidates, those traveling with candidates and those traveling on behalf of candidates in connection with federal elections on private aircraft, including those operated under Part 91.
Thousands of seat-belt buckles and attachments installed in airliners and corporate jets are the subject of two separate recommendations. The FAA published a special airworthiness information bulletin alleging that D-ring-type fittings can inadvertently release the seat belts attached to them. The agency recommends that all D-ring seat belt attachment fittings be replaced with an improved design fitting.
Revisions to the service difficulty reporting (SDR) requirements in FAR Parts 121, 135 and 145 (air carriers and repair stations) set to have gone into effect on January 16 have been delayed until Jan. 30, 2006. As a result of several unresolved issues raised by the industry, the agency has delayed the effective date of the revisions on four separate occasions since the final rules were adopted on Sept. 16, 2000.
Though unconfirmed by DHL, an unofficial collection of photos and text circulating on the Internet sheds chilling light on the November 22 missile attack at Baghdad International Airport. The Brussels, Belgium-based DHL Airbus A300B4-200 freighter, bound for Bahrain, was hit after takeoff and made a successful emergency landing back at the Baghdad airport with no injury to the three-man Belgian/UK crew.
Jet Aviation at London Biggin Hill Airport recently became the first company to be named by the Bromley Borough Chamber of Commerce as one of the best startup companies in South London. The first-time award recognized Jet Aviation for its “outstanding contribution toward helping the area to become one of the most successful business communities in the UK.” Jet Aviation opened its Biggin Hill FBO in 2001.
