Dallas-based Aviall, which supplies parts for more than 200 aviation manufacturers, will now integrate its Raytheon Aircraft inventory into Raytheon’s aircraft parts and inventory distribution (Rapid) program. Aviall’s part listings, totaling more than 60,000 components, will further increase the quantity and range of spares available for Beech and Hawker customers.

Raytheon Aircraft will conduct six regional maintenance and operations sessions for Beechcraft and Hawker owners. The dates and locations are: February 18, Houston; February 19, Tampa, Fla.; February 20, Atlanta; March 3, Tarrytown, N.Y.; March 4, Rosemont, Ill.; and March 19, Las Vegas. In addition, the annual Hawker Jet Operators Conference will be held in Little Rock, Ark., from April 26 to 28.
Interested parties will have more time to comment on the FAA’s proposal to require all air-tour operators to be certified under air carrier regulations. Since the proposal was published last October, the FAA has received more than 1,160 comments, many of them asking for an extended comment period and a public forum.
The NTSB wants the FAA to require Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-60 starter-generators to be electrically isolated from the rest of the engine, a modification that is already in the works.
Starting with the new Challenger 300 powerplant, Honeywell will designate all future turbine engines with letters to identify the type of propulsion, such as HTF for a Honeywell turbofan, HTP for a turboprop and HTS for a turboshaft. Previously, the powerplant in the Challenger 300 was designated the AS907 (where AS stood for AlliedSignal–the company that bought Honeywell in late 1999 and adopted the Honeywell name).
Honeywell has obtained FAA certification of an avionics package that enables Citation 500s to meet the requirements for operating in RVSM airspace, including domestic RVSM scheduled to be implemented next January. Honeywell’s STC covers Citation 500s with serial numbers between 001 and 0274.
Harry Combs, former head of Learjet and founder of AMR Combs, died in Wickenburg, Ariz., on December 23 at the age of 90. Long fascinated by the achievements and legacy of the Wright Brothers, Combs had participated in the December 17 centennial-of-flight activities at Kitty Hawk, N.C., less than a week before his death.
Although an article in The Washington Post last month implied that the Internal Revenue Service now sanctions the extensive personal use of company aircraft by owners and employees while the company takes a full deduction for the costs of owning and operating the airplane, several aviation tax attorneys counter that it merely sheds new light on the way the IRS views such matters.
The FAA is reviewing a proposed noise-compatibility program for Lincoln Airport, Neb., and is expected to issue its findings no later than June 4.
