The Wm Wrigley Jr. Company of Chicago has a rare bird, one of only two Gulfstream G550s equipped with a second crew-rest area, divided from the remaining aft end of the cabin by a sound-damping lead curtain. The second crew-rest area was built and installed at Gulfstream’s Long Beach, Calif. completion center. The other aircraft with a second crew-rest area is operated by NetJets.

Midcoast Aviation, a long-time center for the green completion of highly individualized Bombardier business jet interiors, has secured another 48 positions, bringing to
90 the total number of aircraft scheduled for completion by 2012.
Brazilian OEM Embraer introduced its Lineage 1000 in May last year and a spokesman says the company has already taken orders for “more than five” of the twinjet bizliners, the first of which is scheduled for customer delivery in the middle of next year.
• Congress took a three-week break on November 16 to allow lawmakers to ponder the results of the election. On December 5 lame-duck lawmakers limped back into session but ran like race horses on the way to the finish line and ended the business of the 109th Congress four days later.
In one of its last acts before the 109th Congress ended last month, the Senate approved a House-passed bill that creates a federal Interagency Aerospace Revitalization Task Force. It directs 11 federal agencies, led by the Department of Labor, to form a task force to develop strategies to expand public and private aerospace job-training programs.
Rep. James Oberstar (D-Minn.), considered the most knowledgeable member of Congress on aviation issues, will lead the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee when the 110th Congress convenes this month. The ranking Republican on the committee will be Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.), who was most recently chairman of the House aviation subcommittee. Rep. Jerry Costello (D-Ill.) is in line to chair that subcommittee.
In response to a congressional inquiry, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has determined that the NTSB Training Center near Washington Dulles International Airport should either be made more cost-effective or vacated.
ExxonMobil Aviation is no longer providing fuel services on the Bravo ramp at Ireland’s Dublin Airport. After performing a risk assessment of the ramp’s lighting conditions, ExxonMobil determined that it would be safer to fuel general aviation aircraft on the airport’s main commercial ramp at night.
Monaco Air Duluth, the sole full-service FBO at Duluth International Airport, celebrated its one-year anniversary on November 2. “Customers have been pleased with our facilities and service, and our business is growing accordingly,” said FBO owner Don Monaco. Services include fuel and ground services for general aviation, airline and commercial traffic as well as hangar storage and maintenance.
Runway 14/32 opened in late November at Boston Logan International Airport. The new runway should reduce delays an average of 25 percent, but up to 90 percent when strong northwest winds are blowing. Runway 14/32 isn’t available all the time, but only when northwest or southeast winds are blowing at 10 knots or higher.
