Nearly 20 years ago, The New York Times ran a headline that read “Business May Cut Back, but Not on Its Private Jets.” The header on the next page read, “Corporate Jets Gain in Popularity.” I clipped the articles and when I rediscovered them recently, it struck me how history tends to repeat itself, and it seems this same headline applies today.

Midwest independent cabin completion and refurbishment specialist Duncan Aviation has signed a long-term agreement to do Falcon 7X green completion work under contract to French manufacturer Dassault Aviation. According to a spokesman for Duncan, the first 7X arrived May 2 at its Lincoln, Neb. facility and is due to emerge as a finished airplane in the first quarter of next year.

As demand continues to grow for executive conversions of the Bombardier CRJ200 regional airliner, cabin refurbishment specialist MJet of Montreal recently began work on its first CRJ200. The conversion will include the Elisen Elite 500 auxiliary fuel system, which meets the latest FAA and EASA requirements, including SFAR 88.

Jet Aviation celebrated the grand opening of its new 107,649-sq-ft hangar at Basel EuroAirport in Switzerland. The hangar was completed in seven months and is large enough to simultaneously house four narrowbody bizliners or an Airbus A380 and a Boeing 747-8. Work has already begun on the first airplane, an Airbus A340-600.

FltPlan.com released a free airport and FBO guide that can be downloaded onto PDAs such as the Palm Treo, Windows Mobile devices and BlackBerrys as well as laptops and EFBs. The guide is updated weekly and includes information on more than 5,000 airports in the U.S., Bahamas, Canada and Mexico.

North Atlantic Air at Beverly Airport north of Boston has signed a 40-year lease extension and is adding 7,200 sq ft of hangar space and 50,000 sq ft of transient parking to its FBO facilities. When the new hangar is completed, North Atlantic Air will have more than 95,000 sq ft of hangar space. The FBO has served Beverly Municipal Airport since 1949.
