On May 4, Sporavia and Aviastec signed a 30-year lease with CR Aeropuertos for a four-acre lot at Ciudad Real Airport south of Madrid, where the companies will build a new full-service FBO. Ciudad Real Airport has a Category III ILS-served 13,000-foot runway and is open 18 hours a day.

In April ExecuJet Aviation Group took over a 20,000-sq-ft hangar at Zurich’s Kloten Airport. “Hangarage at Zurich is scarce; we are therefore happy to be taking over this facility, which is big enough to accommodate four large business jets and one small [one],” said Nicole Gut, European FBO director.

Lyon Bron Airport in France held a grand opening for a new 32,000-sq-ft hangar on April 2. The $4.7 million facility includes 2,800 sq ft of office space. Green features of the hangar include 15,000 sq ft of solar cells on the roof, capable of producing 90 megawatt-hours of electricity per year. Another part of the roof is covered with vegetation that will retain rainwater.

PrivatAir is targeting a July 1 opening date for its new charter/management business in Bahrain. The company recently went through a restructuring aimed at making it leaner but still profitable, after having been purchased by a group of private investors, including CEO Greg Thomas. PrivatAir’s main business consists of wet leasing all-business-class single-aisle airliners equipped with long-range fuel tanks.

Rizon Jet’s two FBOs at London Biggin Hill and Doha, Qatar, are set to open in July. Both facilities are similar in size and design, although the Qatar facility includes separate prayer rooms for male and female passengers.
