Landmark Aviation officially began operations last month at its newest facility at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). “We will immediately begin capital improvements to upgrade the FBO, including both the terminal and ramp, and will be looking to hire additional service employees from the local community,” said Landmark president and CEO Dan Bucaro.

The Holland Sheltair Aviation Group, which operates 13 FBOs in Florida, New York and Georgia, announced that it has combined its aviation services segment, along with Sheltair Aviation Facilities, its property leasing unit and Holland Builders, its facility construction business, into one new brand, now known simply as Sheltair.
In the wake of the killing of terrorist chieftain Osama bin Laden last month by U.S. forces in Pakistan, there have been reports of specially trained personnel from the Transportation Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security visiting FBOs located at airports served by airlines.
General DeWitt Spain Airport (M01) in Memphis, Tenn., has been closed since May 4 by the epic flooding of the Mississippi River. Home to more than 70 aircraft (including several turboprops), the general aviation airport was under as much as 12 feet of water, according to a Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority spokesman. In 1987 the authority built a levee to protect the airport from the nearby river.
St. George, Utah-based SkyWest on May 11 named former CFO and executive vice president Brad Rich president of the company as part of a restructuring that saw vice president of finance and treasurer Michael Kraupp become chief financial officer. Long-time SkyWest chief executive Jerry Atkin remains chairman of the board and CEO.
Russian Helicopters and engine manufacturer Turbomeca announced last month that they signed contracts for the supply of “at least 308” Ardiden 3G turboshafts to be installed on the “updated” Kamov Ka-62 medium twin. The Ardiden 3G is an Ardiden 3 variant producing 1,700 to 2,000 shp.
Brazil’s Trip Linhas Aéreas took delivery of its first Embraer E190 last month during a ceremony held May 5 at the manufacturer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, in the state of São Paulo. The airline already flies nine 86-seat E175s and plans to collect nine 110-seat E190s by year-end.
China’s Harbin Embraer Aircraft has delivered the last serial-production Embraer ERJ 145 ever built to Tianjin Airlines. Also the 41st ERJ 145 produced in Harbin since the first airplane rolled out of the factory in December 2003, the airplane landed at Tianjin Binhai International Airport on April 26 following a ferry flight from the site of Embraer’s 50-50 joint venture with Avic subsidiary Harbin Aircraft.
As Honeywell’s Falcon 900 equipped with the new EASy II avionics upgrade flew solidly down the glideslope to Runway 23 at Morristown Airport in New Jersey, the two pilots and I (sitting in the jump seat) could see a clear view of the outside world on the PFD’s SmartView synthetic-vision system (SVS) display. Outside the world was murky white and it stayed that way down to minimums.
