Jeppesen’s UK office is now co-located with Boeing Alteon’s new London Gatwick Training Center. The move is intended to provide Jeppesen’s UK operation with room to grow and the ability to expand its range of international trip-planning services. In addition, the Jeppesen UK office now has in place a call center that handles general aviation sales and customer service for the region. Operations at the training facility began last July.

NBAA’s prophecy is coming true. The FAA published a “show cause” notice to extend the flight-reduction program through October 31 at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The program went into effect on November 1, originally with an expiration date of April 30.
The Challenger crash at Teterboro on February 2 brought out the usual airport opponents. For many years, local officials, activists and residents in areas around the airport have been trying to restrain airport growth. Only 12 miles from Manhattan, TEB is one of the country’s busiest general aviation airports, with 202,720 operations last year.
The recently released NTSB preliminary report on the February 2 crash of a Bombardier Challenger 600 at New Jersey’s Teterboro (TEB) Airport was all too brief, considering the stir the spectacular, though nonfatal, accident caused in the national media. On takeoff, Challenger N370V not only slid off the end of Runway 6 but went through the airport fence and hurtled across busy six-lane U.S.
Marquis Jet is now marketing a 25-hour card that gives users access to 12.5 hours in each of two different aircraft types. The new card combines aircraft types with different seating and baggage configurations, amenities and distance capabilities. The company offers two different versions of the new card: a Citation Excel/Hawker 400XP combination and a Citation X/Citation Excel combo.
An AD issued last month requires operators of certain Gulfstream IV-SP series to install software and hardware updates to their Honeywell Primus Epic avionics to correct an EFIS display blanking problem. The FAA said it received a report that all four EFIS screens went blank simultaneously for about 74 seconds in flight. Two similar incidents occurred on the ground, according to the agency.
Montreal-based simulator manufacturer and training organization CAE announced a restructuring plan, including several hundred layoffs, to take effect April 1. The move is aimed at restoring the company’s profitability. The company told AIN that its SimuFlite unit is “doing well” and is not affected by the reorganization.
Operators of all U.S.-registered Challenger 600s, 601s and 604s and Canadair Regional Jets, which are derived from the business jet, must incorporate flight manual revisions to ensure that before takeoff the “wing leading edge and upper wing surface are completely free of ice, frost, snow or slush,” under a new AD. The FAA directive (AD 2005-04-07) followed an identical AD from Transport Canada.
The Citation 560 that crashed short of Runway 26R at Pueblo Municipal Airport, Colo., on February 17 was only about 300 feet agl while still four miles out, according to the NTSB. The airplane crashed just seconds later, at about 9:15 a.m. The two pilots and six passengers were killed and the aircraft was destroyed. The jet was one of two Circuit City Stores airplanes making the same flight.
The continued weakness of the U.S. dollar and lower operating costs are allowing U.S. executive charter operators to take business from European rivals. According to Niklas Berg, CEO of online charter booking system Avinode, U.S. firms are currently able to bid competitively against European operators for long-haul flights beginning in Europe and therefore requiring a transatlantic positioning flight.
