Riley Investment Management principal John Ahn has won a seat on the board of Mesaba Airlines parent MAIR Holdings in exchange for abandoning his plans to call a special shareholders meeting to increase the size of the company’s board to 10 members and change the company’s bylaws.
Comair has given its pilots until March 4 to ratify a tentative deal forged with union representatives last month after U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge Adlai Hardin ruled that the group cannot legally call a strike. The agreement came just as management prepared to impose $15.8 million in cost concessions, authority for which Hardin had granted in December. Whatever the result of the pilot vote, ALPA vowed to appeal Hardin’s ruling.
Manassas, Va.-based Colgan Air will fly fifteen 74-seat Bombardier Q400 turboprops under a 10-year capacity purchase agreement that Colgan’s new owner, Memphis-based Pinnacle Airlines, signed with Continental Airlines last month. The deal will see Colgan fly the new airplanes, scheduled for delivery from this December through June of next year, from Continental’s Newark, N.J. hub starting next January.

Eclipse Aviation and Aspen Avionics last month settled a patent dispute over the AT300 hazard awareness display. Under the settlement agreement, Eclipse dropped a competing patent claim in exchange for 1 percent of Aspen common stock. The VLJ maker had contended that Aspen cofounders Peter Lyons and Jeff Bethel developed the AT300 product while they worked at Eclipse and, therefore, the patent for the product should belong to Eclipse.
Landmark Aviation last month joined the ranks of installation centers that are busy turning around upgraded avionics systems for operators of Gulfstream IIIs and Falcon 50s. Landmark workers in Springfield, Mo., installed a Honeywell Primus Epic CDS/R display retrofit in a customer’s GIII, adding terrain and runway awareness while keeping the airplane’s original FMS and Pro Line II radios.

Boeing Business Jets said enhanced-vision system (EVS) capability is coming to the BBJ, but the technology will be offered as a retrofit both for new and in-service airplanes. In other words, buyers of new BBJs seeking to add EVS must first take delivery of their airplane before sending it to an installation center to add the EVS camera system at a cost of between $500,000 and $750,000 for the hardware alone.
