A new FBO under construction at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City will compete with the sole FBO at the airport, an Executive Beechcraft facility owned by Signature Flight Support parent company BBA Aviation.

According to DeTect, a Panama City, Fla. manufacturer of bird detection radar, its system is ready for operational use. FAA statements about bird radars not being ready for operational use and needing years more research following the US Airways A320 ditching in the Hudson River “are simply not correct,” said DeTect general manager and CEO Gary Andrews.

Ronaldsway Airport on the Isle of Man expects to award by the end of this month a contract to build and operate a new FBO to cater to the growing number of business aircraft visiting the offshore financial center. Construction work is due to begin in the summer and should be completed within 12 months. The new facility will include almost 27,000 sq ft of hangar space with an adjoining dedicated ramp
of almost 22,000 sq ft.

FBO Cleveland Jet Center at Ohio’s Cuyahoga County Airport has added jet-A and avgas supplied by Avfuel to its list of services. Renovated facilities at the FBO include a 34,000-sq-ft office building fronted by a porte-cochere entrance and a 25,000-sq-ft heated hangar. On January 12, the new Million Air Tucson FBO held its grand opening, marking the FBO franchise’s first presence in Arizona. The new facility, designed by Seaver Franks Architects, was finished in January and features more than 54,000 sq ft of office and hangar space, a two-story FBO terminal, security system with electronic access, theater room, covered parking and spacious conference and break rooms.
The FAA has released details of how general aviation traffic will be severely constrained when President Obama stays at his Chicago home. Operators wishing to fly to Midway Airport will have to obtain a TSA special events waiver and undergo TSA security screening at gateway airports Rockford International, Greater Peoria Regional or South Bend Regional before continuing to Midway.
