In an effort to increase the awareness of Jacksonville, Florida’s aviation system, the city’s aviation authority is renaming three of its owned and operated airports as part of a rebranding campaign. Cecil Field becomes Cecil Airport, while Herlong Airport was renamed Herlong Recreational Airport. The former Craig Airport is now Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport.

Atlantic Aviation parent company Macquarie Infrastructure announced last month that its facility and lease at Fresno Yosemite International Airport was sold to a Ross Aviation subsidiary, while the FBO and leasehold of its property at Cleveland’s Cuyahoga County Airport were sold to the Cleveland Jet Center. The terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The recently opened FBO at Vermont’s Burlington International Airport was awarded Leed gold status last month by the U.S. Green Building Council based on the design, construction and operation of the high-performance environmentally friendly building.

The FAA issued an emergency Airworthiness Directive (AD)-2011-01-53 on December 20 to owners and operators of the Piaggio Avanti twin turboprop. The AD supersedes AD 2011-01-51, issued December 18.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 has gained Russian certification, more than two-and-a-half years after the first prototype embarked on its maiden flight.

Simultaneously, Russian certification authority IAC AR granted a design organization approval certificate to Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company based on an audit of the aircraft development quality system and Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCAC) performance.

JetFlite International of Long Beach, Calif., saw its charter revenue surge by 37 percent last year and is projecting more than 30-percent growth this year. International flights account for nearly 55 percent of the company's total aircraft charter business, said JFI president Albert Pod. JetFlite also has an operating base at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, N.Y.

St. Louis-based Trans States Holdings (TSH) signed a firm order for 50 Mitsubishi Regional Jets and secured options on another 50, Mitsubishi Aircraft announced in February during a ceremony held in Nagoya, Japan. The sides finalized and executed the so-called definitive purchase agreement on December 27, almost 15 months after TSH signed a letter of intent to become the first U.S.

BAE Systems’s asset management division has reported an uptick in demand for its portfolio of pre-owned Avro RJ and 146 regional jets. The UK-based group is also taking on more contracts to remarket other manufacturers’ aircraft and is seeing growth in its product support and engineering activities.
