The Dayton Air Show again selected Aviation Sales as the preferred FBO for the annual airshow at James M. Cox Dayton International Airport. The show, held July 18 and 19, brought a big boost in business to Aviation Sales, which also owns an FBO at Dayton Wright Brothers Airport. The Dayton facility is the closest to the runway and has a large ramp and hangars available for overnight storage.

Business aircraft operators have long asked for a second FBO option at Savannah (Ga.)/Hilton Head (S.C.) International Airport (SAV), and they got their wish in March when SheltAir Aviation Services opened. SheltAir now competes against Signature Flight Support SAV, which has been the airport’s sole FBO for several decades (though before 1992 it was a Butler Aviation facility; Butler and Page Avjet merged in 1992 to form Signature).
Fuel distribution company Avfuel has added two new FBOs to its network, Pentastar Aviation at Oakland County International Airport in Pontiac, Mich., and American Aviation at Hernando County Airport in Brooksville, Fla. After opening in temporary facilities in May, the new Hangar 10 FBO at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City, Mo., has entered the next phase of construction. Hangar 10’s phase II project includes building a new FBO terminal and the first of what will become three hangar bays encompassing 56,000 sq ft.
Million Air has purchased one of Signature Flight Support’s two FBOs at Indianapolis International Airport. After Signature bought seven FBOs from Hawker Beechcraft last year, the U.S. Department of Justice issued a consent decree requiring the FBO chain to divest itself of one of its two facilities at Indianapolis. The Hawker Beechcraft facilities included an FBO at Indianapolis, where Signature has long operated an FBO.
San Diego International Airport has begun a major reconstruction project on Taxiway Charlie, which will affect access to the airport’s sole FBO, Landmark Aviation. According to Mark Hander in the airport’s operations office, “During the construction period [September 2009 to April 2010], general aviation/corporate aircraft may experience taxi delays to the FBO ramp along with limited long-term aircraft parking.
