For around $10,000 per year, aircraft operators can now fly with diagnostic equipment that will allow them to relay vital medical data to ground-based emergency support physicians. The application of the equipment on air- craft is too new yet to have generated firm evidence on the extent to which it can save lives, but early indications are that in many cases it will make an important contribution to the effectiveness of in-flight treatment.

Hartzell has introduced a four-bladed aluminum propeller conversion for the Fairchild Metro II that the company said reduces sound levels by 10 to 12 dBA, providing a quieter cabin and lower external noise. The diameter of the new prop system is reduced by five inches from that of the original three-blade system. An “advanced airfoil configuration” was also applied to the new blades, said Hartzell.
Execair’s Birmingham FBO handled the lion’s share of corporate aircraft traffic flying in for the Ryder Cup golf tournament between September 27 and 29. The facility received around 80 flights over the weekend, with most of them being larger business jets. By comparison, Midwest Executive at the more distant Coventry Airport handled about a dozen aircraft, although in some cases these aircraft made multiple movements.
A ban by the coastal California city of Huntington Beach on all aerial advertising flights in its airspace is believed to be the first of its kind in the U.S. The law–should it survive legal challenges, one of which was filed even before the ordinance became effective on October 16–could set a precedent with profound implications for general aviation.
