This year’s 62nd National Business Aviation Association Annual Meeting & Convention (October 20 to 22) probably won’t exceed previous records, but later this month the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., will definitely bustle with exhibitors setting up booths, aircraft arriving at nearby airports and thousands of attendees gathering for a week’s worth of learning, sharing and, hopefully, selling.

The European Union has granted the International Business Aviation Council’s (IBAC) International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) official recognition as an industry standard for business aircraft operations.
With Congress wrangling over health-care reform and the September 30 end of Fiscal Year 2009 fast approaching, at press time it appeared that yet another short-term funding extension would be needed before any FAA reauthorization bill is enacted.
A small group of Embraer Phenom 100 owners came together in Santa Barbara, Calif., on August 29 for the first Phenom owners gathering. Ben Marcus, a partner
in light jet brokerage firm JetAviva, Van Nuys, Calif., helped put the meeting together, which attracted eight owners, who could form the nucleus of a Phenom 100 owners association.
The bankrupt status of Eclipse Aviation finally ended in August after Eclipse Aerospace bought the assets of the very light jet manufacturer for $40 million. On September 1, Eclipse Aerospace founders Mason Holland and Michael Press joined Albuquerque mayor Martin Chávez to celebrate the reopening of the factory at Eclipse’s headquarters at Albuquerque International Air- port.
The FAA’s recent special airworthiness information bulletin (SAIB: NE-09-25R1) regarding recommended safe-operating guidelines in the possible presence of the jet-fuel contaminant Fame (fatty acid methyl ester) has caused some confusion among operators. The agency is concerned that jet fuel could be exposed to Fame contamination through the use of multi-product fuel-transport systems and is taking steps to begin educating operators.
Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (MJet) announced last month that it will delay first flight of the 92-seat MRJ90 by as much as six months, from late 2011 to the second quarter of 2012, to accommodate changes to the design of the cabin and the wing box. MJet now expects to deliver the first MRJ90 during the first quarter of 2014. Development of the 78-seat MRJ70 trails that of its larger sibling by roughly a year.
The fortunes of Bombardier Aerospace’s regional jet business received a considerable boost last month when American Airlines announced the signing of a letter of intent covering the conversion of an option for 22 CRJ700s.
The future of Bombardier Aerospace’s airline business might well hinge on what becomes of the final product that emerges from last month’s official ground breaking of a new complex in Mirabel, Canada, dedicated to the C Series airliner.
Embraer delivered British Airways’ first 76-seat Embraer E170 on September 3, marking the start of a schedule that calls for delivery at a rate of roughly one airplane a month. Assigned to its CityFlyer regional subsidiary, BA’s orders encompass six E170s and five 98-seat E190s, the first of which it plans to take “early next year.” BA planned to launch E170 operations on September 28 from London City Airport to Edinburgh, Scotland.
