Avcon Industries, the Newton, Kan. company that developed the Learjet 30 series “Avcon Fin,” is seeking 20 Learjet 24/25s, at least four of which will participate with Avcon’s own aircraft in a group RVSM program for the business jets. Avcon expects the RVSM avionics package and functional test flight to cost $149,225 per aircraft. An initial deposit of $25,000 is required.

Operators of the Agusta A109E Power twin-turbine helicopter and the Agusta A119K Koala single-turbine helicopter were required by emergency ADs issued last month to reduce Vne speeds by 20 kt. The FAA said there are continuing problems with tail-rotor cracks, and that reducing the Vne decreases tail-rotor loading. Additional tail-rotor hub and blade mods necessary for the A119K are not required for the A109E.

Comments on the Transportation Security Administration’s Twelve-Five Standard Security Program (TFSSP), which details the proposed requirements to comply with the TSA’s security program mandate for Part 135 airplanes with an mtow of 12,500 lb or more, were due August 19, but that deadline likely will be extended to at least September 19.

It’s expected that Cessna will announce at this month’s NBAA show the Citation CJ3, reportedly a slightly longer, faster and more powerful version of the company’s hot-selling CJ2, itself introduced into service just two years ago.

With general aviation access to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in an indefinite holding pattern, NBAA has decided to re-target its monthly update meetings at the airport to encompass all of the security issues that business aviation faces or may face in the future.
