At EAA AirVenture, Epic Aircraft’s single-engine Victory jet made its first public appearance. The Williams International FJ33-4 that powers the prototype might not power the production Victory. According to Epic, the company has not yet made the final engine selection for the Victory, but it is considering the FJ33-4 and the P&WC PW615 or 617.
Albuquerque-based very light jet maker Eclipse Aviation delivered on a plan devised seven years ago when the company put one of its early production aircraft on the auction block last month.
Five people perished on August 5 when their King Air E90B crashed on departure from Ruidoso Airport in New Mexico. The aircraft was operated by Southwest MedEvac of Las Cruces, N.M., and the flight had been dispatched as Part 135 when the accident happened. In addition to the pilot, flight medic and flight nurse, a 15-month-old patient and her mother were killed.
Denver-based Air Methods has reached a definitive agreement to acquire all the stock of FSS Airholdings, the parent company of medical helicopter provider CJ Systems. CJ operates 113 medevac helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft and employs 800 people nationwide. The deal is valued at $25 million and is expected to close by the end of next month. Last year FSS posted a net income of $1.2 million on revenue of $128.8 million.
