The Embraer Legacy 600 involved in the midair with a Gol Transportes Aéreos Boeing 737 on Sept. 29, 2006, arrived at Cleveland (Ohio) Hopkins International Airport on November 19 after a ferry flight from Eduardo Gomes International Airport in Manaus, Brazil.
When the former Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, N.H., was converted into a civil airport in the early 1990s, Bob Jesurum, a computer hardware and software developer, saw an opportunity to build an aviation business. Instead of opening an FBO first then adding other services, Jesurum started a maintenance shop–Port City Aircraft Repair–in one of the gigantic old Air Force hangars at the airport.
The FAA’s first notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on safety management systems (SMS) was published on October 7 and will require Part 139 airports to adopt an SMS program within six to nine months of publication of the final rule. Comments are due by Jan. 5, 2011.
Van Nuys, Calif.-based TWC Aviation signed a binding agreement to acquire ACM Aviation, a worldwide aircraft management and charter firm based in San Jose, Calif. The deal will give the combined company 22 operating bases throughout the U.S. Privately held TWC Aviation provides aircraft charter, management, sales and maintenance.
Jersey’s Teterboro Airport (TEB) honored 24 company flight departments and individuals with its annual Good Neighbor Awards at the NBAA Convention in October. Recipients for the year 2009 were recognized for adhering to TEB’s voluntary noise restraints limiting late-night arrivals and departures and prohibiting Stage II jet operations.
Sugar Land Regional Airport near Houston has renamed its FBO Global Select. “A new name will allow us to market the FBO independently from the city’s airport,” explained Phillip Savko, director of aviation for the airport. “Typically, FBOs that are run by municipalities have an unfavorable reputation. Global Select’s new facility and top-notch amenities set it apart.
Signature Flight Support has opened its first Canadian FBO, at Montreal Pierre-Elliott Trudeau International Airport. The announcement results from a licensing agreement with Starlink Aviation, which is rebranding its existing FBO at Trudeau to operate under the Signature Flight Support name.
FBO chain Ross Aviation has acquired the assets of an FBO formerly operated by Ronson Aviation at Trenton Mercer Airport in West Trenton, N.J. The FBO–which for now will continue to be known as Ronson Aviation–is the 14th location in the Ross network. Ronson Aviation provides fueling, aircraft maintenance and avionics sales, installation and service and offers 72,000 sq ft of hangar and office space.
FlightAware announced at the NBAA Convention that users of its online flight-tracking, flight-data and flight-planning services can now make fuel arrangements with the new free FuelAware service. FuelAware allows dispatchers and pilots to submit pricing requests anonymously to FBOs for passenger, pilot and aircraft services and to make reservations at FBOs.
