Dubai airport-based Elite Jets is marking its first anniversary here at the Dubai airshow by exhibiting alongside Raytheon Aircraft (Stand E501). Recent news from the private charter operator includes the delivery of a second owned Hawker 1000 business jet, an agreement with a tour operator and a block-booking contract with independent aircraft charter broker International Air Charter (IAC).

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft is negotiating a new sales contract for the Russian Regional Jet and may be able to announce the deal here at Dubai 2005 tomorrow, a company spokeswoman told Aviation International News yesterday. The deal will certainly not involve Aeroflot, however, as the Russian flagcarrier continues to weigh its options on a purchase of 30 regional jets, a decision it expects to announce by the end of the year.
FLIR Systems is showcasing three new compact multi-sensor systems developed to maintain the company’s position as a leader in this field. Each is a derivative of an earlier model but incorporates an advance in technology that results in improved performance.
The Dassault Falcon 7X business jet last Tuesday flew for the 100th time. It took off from the French manufacturer’s flight test center in Istres, in the southeast of the country. Meanwhile, Dassault has released the first photo showing the 5,700-nm-range trijet fitted with winglets. They are part of design enhancements that are under test and could boost range to 6,000 nm.
Raytheon Aircraft this month announced the Hawker 850XP and–true to form–the airplane is an evolution of the Hawker 800XPi, which is itself a recently revealed enhanced version of the Hawker 800XP that is in turn a derivative of the Hawker 800.
The Firefly throwaway micro unmanned aerial vehicle (MUAV) system displayed for the first time by Integrated Dynamics (Stand W301) places the Pakistani company in the forefront of this technology. Designed to enable a soldier to see what is behind a building or over a hill, the Firefly is a rocket-boosted glider carrying a day/night digital camera.
Piaggio Aero Industries is showcasing the new Avanti II version of its distinctive twin pusherprop here at Dubai 2005 this week. But the Italian company is remaining tight-lipped about long-anticipated plans for a new light business jet.
The Avanti II completed European certification last month and delivery of the first new-version aircraft is to follow to an unnamed Swiss customer.
Hallelujah! Boeing and Airbus agree about something. The rival airframers both foresee a 20-year market in this region for 88 large airliners of Boeing 747 size or bigger. Outlining the U.S. manufacturer’s view of Middle East airlines’ demand for new aircraft until 2024, marketing vice president Randy Baseler said here at Dubai 2005 that operators would need 869 new aircraft.
