Dassault is increasingly using tactile virtual reality (VR) to design its Falcon business jets. Haptic (from the Greek for sense of touch) interfaces, such as force-feedback arms, allow engineers to better check maintainability early in the design phase. Along with several partners, the French manufacturer (Booth No. 7514) is integrating these tools into its Catia v5 product lifecycle management (PLM) suite of software programs.

Demand for new business aircraft in Europe is riding high on a wave of economic growth that is particularly strong in the former communist eastern states. The market is being fanned by the bolstered buying power of customers paying in euros and British pounds as the U.S. dollar continues to languish on international currency exchanges.
Swiss group Ruag Aerospace is here at EBACE (Booth No. 1470) hot on the heels of its purchase of Pilatus Aircraft’s (Booth No. 700) TSA Transairco subsidiary in early April. The sale, the price of which was undisclosed, is retroactive to January 1.
The new owner said it intends to retain all 115 of Transairco’s employees and the management team headed by CEO Jason Mulcock.
Tyrolean Jet Services of Innsbruck is here at EBACE for the sixth time, exhibiting its charter expertise to attendees (Booth No. 526). Austria’s oldest executive aircraft operator and the largest in the western part of the country, Tyrolean was founded in 1976 as the flight department of the Swarovski Group–manufacturer of crystal, jewelry and optical systems.
Spurred by representatives from St. Gallen/Altenrhein Airport, five other smaller Swiss airports–at Bern, Buochs, Lugano, Samaden and Sion–have launched an attempt to secure a larger share of the country’s business aviation traffic.
Operators who own a share of a fractional aircraft are to be given the same Cape Town Treaty protection as sole owners have had since March 2006. They are to be included in the International Registry of Mobile Assets (IRMA), which provides a single universal point of reference and record, and was set up under the treaty (which comprises the Cape Town Convention and the related Protocol on Aircraft Assets).

AirCell, one of the world’s leading airborne telecommunications service providers, has named Sergio Aguirre as its OEM sales manager. Aguirre brings more than 20 years of industry experience to the position, where he will manage the Colorado-based company’s business aviation OEM relationships.
Prior to joining AirCell, Aguirre held positions of increasing responsibility with Gulfstream Aerospace, Airshow and Securaplane.
A titanic battle appears to be shaping up in the 10,000-pound thrust segment of the aero engine market, where there is a need for powerplants to drive the coming super-midsize and large business jets, as well as smaller regional airliners.
