EADS has found a solution to save 650 out of 1,050 jobs at the Bordeaux facility of its Sogerma Services subsidiary. France-based TAT group, which now operates its maintenance, repair and overhaul business under the Sabena Technics brand, is taking over the site’s maintenance activity. This will account for 500 employees. EADS will keep the aerostructures activity–another 150 jobs.

Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways has extended its total technical support (TTS) agreement with Lufthansa Technik to include total engine support (TES) valued at more than $70 million.
EMS Satcom (Hall 4 Stand C17E) has been selected by the French Navy as part of a team that includes Eclipse and France Telecom to provide a broadband high-speed data solution for six of its maritime patrol aircraft, with an option for two more.
Electro-thermal ice protection systems made by UK company GKN Aerospace (Chalet G1-3) have been selected for every major aircraft for which electric de-icing systems have been specified, according to senior vice president of sales and marketing Frank Bamford. Applications for which the GKN system has been chosen to-date include the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, Boeing 787 and EH101 medium/heavy lift helicopter.
EADS North America chairman and CEO Ralph Crosby trumpeted Eurocopter’s newfound status as “a valued, trusted contributor to the U.S. industrial base,” following its win of a contract to supply the U.S. Army with 322 UH-145 light helicopters. “The U.S. defense market is where we have to be,” said Crosby. And who could argue?
Boasting a rich heritage of developing special mission aircraft stretching back more than 40 years, Bombardier has only recently formed a Specialized Aircraft Solutions unit with Derek Gilmour as its vice president. Over that period the company has designed, built and delivered well over 300 special mission aircraft for customers worldwide.
General Electric (Hall 4 Stand B7) expects its revenues to grow to a record $12.8 billion in 2006–almost 8 percent more than last year. The U.S. engine maker said here that services are driving the increase.

Thales UK, together with EuroFirst partners Galileo Avionica of Italy and Technobit of Spain, has been awarded a contract to supply 200 Pirate infrared search and track (IRST) and forward-looking infrared (FLIR) units for Tranche 2 of Eurofighter Typhoon production aircraft for the UK, Spain and Italy.

Eaton (Hall 4 Stand F12) has been selected by Embraer to provide five packages for Embraer’s Phenom 100 very light jet. These include the hydraulic power generation package, design of the aircraft’s flap system and landing gear control hydraulic components. It will also supply miscellaneous cockpit controls including the throttle, landing gear and flap selectors.
