Eclipse Aerospace has grown to more than 60 employees since purchasing the assets of bankrupt Eclipse Aviation on September 4, and the new company is meeting its plan to supply parts and provide upgrades to Eclipse 500 VLJ owners.

Robert Wiles, the 26-year-old son of National Flight Services (NSF) owner Tom Wiles, is believed to be dead and a former coworker has been arrested for his death, the FBI said in late December. In late December, the FAA granted type approval for Rolls-Royce’s BR725 turbofan, which powers the Gulfstream G650. The certification covers a thrust rating of 16,100 pounds and follows EASA certification in June. The G650 flight-test program has been under way since November 25, and Gulfstream expects the ultra-long-range wide-cabin business jet to enter service in 2012.
NewJet International, Bombardier Business Aircraft’s distributor in Monaco and Italy, recently delivered the first Signature Red Series Learjet 60XR to an undisclosed customer. Bombardier launched the Signature Series in two versions–red and black–at the NBAA Convention in October. Each features a specially designed cabin layout with increased legroom, soft color schemes, dark wood veneers and a larger galley than the standard Learjet 60.
More than 60 percent of business jet pilots do not use oxygen masks when required to by FAA regulations, according to a survey conducted by corporate pilot Chris Shaver for his master’s thesis at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Both product support and research and development have taken hits in the helicopter industry as cash flow and current sales shrink, while future orders are clouded by important changes and growing uncertainty in key customer sectors.
