Pratt & Whitney Canada’s helicopter turboshaft engine business has enjoyed
an unprecedented surge in recent years, thanks in part to the company’s development work on turbofan engines for business jets, company executives said.

Active-noise-reduction specialist Lightspeed Aviation (Booth No. 308) is introducing its Zulu Helo headset at Heli-Expo 2008. It is a product the Lake Oswego, Ore.-based company describes as the first “premium-priced, luxury headset” designed specifically for the rotorcraft market.
Chelmsford, Mass.-based Mercury Computer Systems is on hand at Heli-Expo to demonstrate its new VistaNav 3D synthetic-vision system with FLIR. According to a company spokesman, the now-available VistaNav 3D is the first such portable system for helicopters. On display are the company’s CIS-2000 and CIS-2200, which are classified as commercial class II electronic flight bag systems.
California firm Vishay Intertechnology (Booth No. 1914) has introduced a wireless aircraft-weighing system that can be used for monitoring center of gravity, performing weight checks after an airframe repair and providing weight calculations for the purpose of design-proving.
Standard Aero (Booth No. 4621) is now offering a Rolls-Royce-approved repair procedure for the Model 250 Series II first-stage Mar-M nozzles and Series IV second-stage turbine nozzles. The company also announced a new modification for Roll-Royce 250 Series III and IV air/oil separator gears.
OuterLink, a Lowell, Mass. company that specializes in mobile asset tracking, is at Heli-Expo 2008 promoting the latest version of its CommTrack satellite-based software suite and a new product, the CV2R cockpit voice and video recorder. Both are being featured at OuterLink’s booth (No. 2216).
Accessories make an outfit. They also make a helicopter, or at least they make it better. That’s the theory with which Jeff Shapiro launched Dart Helicopter Services (Booth No. 2263) in 2005, and it has apparently been a successful one.
AgustaWestland (Booth No. 3039) doesn’t plan on introducing a new helicopter this week, but the company has plenty to say, beginning with the announcement that BERP IV rotor blades for the three-engine AW101 are now available as an option on new civil and military variants or as a retrofit on models already in service.

Database demonstrations are being featured here at Booth No. 4136.
United States Aircraft Insurance Group (USAIG) has donated more than $4.8 million to date in training costs to help Bell, American Eurocopter, MD Helicopters and Agusta operators who participate in a preferred policy program, the New York-based insurance company announced.
