On Sunday, CJ Systems bought 10 Eurocopters, and yesterday it signed for 10 Bell 429s, with an option for 10 more. Sealing the deal are CJ Systems president and COO Larry Pietropaulo (left) and Bell Helicopter CEO Mike Redenbaugh.

Altair Avionics (Booth No. 1411) has acquired a fleet customer for its IntelliStart+ aircraft data-monitoring system and a series of European certifications for IntelliStart+ and Altair’s companion data transmission unit (DTU), the company announced.

The big news from Pratt & Whitney Canada at HeliExpo’05 in Anaheim, Calif., was the announcement of the launch of the PW210S turboshaft engine program. Alain Bellemare, president of Pratt & Whitney Canada, told HAI Convention News that this year the company’s focus at Heli-Expo will be on current products, not new announcements.

Enstrom Helicopter Corp. president and CEO Jerry Mullins said yesterday that he is courting potential investors to support the company’s expansion plans, but that no firm commitments have been made.

“I’m looking for some capital to assist us with that,” he said. “We’re feeling really good about the exposure we’re getting finally,” he added.

Meeker Aviation, a manufacturer of FLIR camera and searchlight mounts, has unveiled at Heli-Expo its latest product, the multiple-payload cabin step for the Eurocopter EC 135 and EC 145. On display in Booth No. 4014, the step can carry various cameras to a maximum of 125 pounds, or a searchlight such as the SX-16/Nightsun II.

As unveilings go, it wasn’t in the quite same category as Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction.” But on the other hand, displaying a new engine cowling isn’t going to get the FCC coming down on you, and the folks at DynCorp International in Fort Worth and Temsco Helicopters of Ketchikan, Alaska, seemed happy with it.

Are you back to full production yet?

At the time of our acquisition, we needed to restart the production line and reignite the supply chain. Six months later, we are on course to meet our production target for 2006 and will significantly increase it in 2007. Conservatively, I would anticipate full production with a renewed supply chain to be in full effect in 2008.

Switlik Parachute has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Coast Guard to provide aircrew anti-exposure garments (AEGs) for rescue aviators. Switlik’s U-Zip-It aircrew dry suit won out over two competitors in test programs conducted in Savannah, Ga.; Traverse City, Mich.; San Francisco and San Diego, the company said.
