The planned Liberty Air Ventures FBO at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) has encountered some site delays, according to president and CEO Mary Pilgrim. “We hope to break ground next month,” she told AIN. Liberty Air is planning to build a new FBO with a 3,200-sq-ft terminal, 13,000-sq-ft maintenance hangar and 20,000-gallon jet-A fuel farm.

It’s too soon to know the fate of the so-called user-fee bills working their way through the sausage-making legislative apparatus in Washington, D.C., but the senate’s FAA reauthorization legislation includes a stipulation that would allow the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to impose weight restrictions at Teterboro Airport, and the FAA would not be able to prevent such a move.

The California State Assembly voted to approve Assembly Bill 700, a requirement for the City of Santa Monica to measure emissions of aircraft using Santa Monica Airport (SMO) for one year. “If the legislation is approved and signed into law, this would mark the eighth study of its kind regarding emissions at SMO,” the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) explained. AB 700 still must be considered by the California State Senate.

NetJets Europe tapped Signature Flight Support as its Europe-wide “preferred handler.” The agreement covers Signature FBOs in Belgium, France, Greece, Ireland, South Africa and the UK. NetJets Europe shareowners can still use any FBO or handler that they choose. “It’s not an exclusive agreement,” explained a Signature spokesman.

Ken Allison, owner of a growing chain of Million Air FBOs, has added a seventh facility to his stable, Million Air Charleston at South Carolina’s Charleston International Airport. Groundbreaking for the new Million Air FBO facility took place last year, and the facility opened late last month. The new FBO offers a spacious atrium lobby, technologically advanced conference rooms and separate entrances and shop space for based customers.

Groundbreaking for the FBO at Houston’s newest airport, Houston Executive, took place on June 11. The FBO, Henriksen Jet Center, should be completed next year and will feature a two-story 48,000-sq-ft terminal building with a theater room and a 26,000-sq-ft hangar. Long-range plans also call for extending the existing 5,050-foot runway to 7,604 feet.

Million Air president and CEO Roger Woolsey and partner FlyingGroup celebrated the opening of the Million Air FBO at Paris Le Bourget Airport. FlyingGroup is a European charter/management and handling company with bases in Paris and Antwerp and will continue to operate its charter/management business at the new Million Air FBO at Le Bourget.
