Bruno Spagnolini has been named CEO of AgustaWestland. He was promoted from his role as the company’s COO.

Alenia Aeronautica has appointed Amedeo Caporaletti as the company’s chairman. He succeeds Giorgio Brazzelli, who will take on another role within the Finmeccanica group.
UTair Takes Russia’s First ATR 72-500

The first ATR 72-500 ever delivered to a Russian airline now operates with UTair, the Siberian aviation company that recently placed an order for 20 of the type for its regional airline based in Khanty Mansiysk. Officially closed in late April and valued at $426 million at list prices, the contract calls for delivery of the new 70-seat turboprops through the end of next year.
Tornado Destroys Joplin Medevac Copter

The EF5 tornado that struck Joplin, Mo., on May 22 packed 200-mph winds and tore a three-quarter-mile-wide, 14-mile-long path of destruction that killed 154 and leveled 8,000 structures. The storm took dead aim at Joplin’s St. John’s Regional Medical Center, rendering the building unusable and forcing a post-storm evacuation of 183 patients. Five others suffocated when back-up power failed and their ventilators shut down.
In the Works July 2011: Dassault Falcon 2000S

Dassault unveiled the Falcon 2000S at May’s Ebace show as a lower-cost replacement for the 2000DX. Range of the 2000S is 3,350 nm, 100 nm greater than the DX. The 2000S’s simpler fuel system helps keep the price below $25 million. Modifications, including inboard slats and a standard autobrake, lower approach speed by 10 knots, which improves takeoff and landing performance.
Constant Gets STC for GoGo Biz in EMB 135 Shuttle

Cleveland-based Constant Aviation received STC approval for installing the Aircell Cabin Wireless Access Point (CWAP) system, which provides Gogo Biz airborne broadband service, in an Embraer EMB135 corporate shuttle. The completion of this STC marks the first ever CWAP installation in an EMB135 corporate shuttle as well as the first ever such system installed in a corporate aircraft.

Garmin G500H and G600 Receive New Approvals

Garmin’s G500H helicopter glass cockpit is now approved for installation in Canadian-registered Eurocopter AS350B2/B3s and EC130B4s. The all-glass G500H features synthetic vision technology (SVT), moving map, chart data, helicopter-specific database including more than 7,000 airports and nearly 30,000 obstacles, optional worldwide weather and the ability to display FLIR (infrared) and other video sources.

Bombardier Aerospace has added four field service representatives and two customer support account managers to cover Europe and South Africa. The appointments bring to 25 the total number of field service reps and customer support account managers supporting business aircraft customers in Europe.

Pinnacle Names New CEO

Former Frontier Airlines boss Sean Menke will succeed Phil Trenary as CEO of Memphis-based Pinnacle Airlines, the regional carrier announced in late May. A managing partner at Denver-based Vista Strategic Group, Menke assumes his new duties on July 1. Trenary resigned his position on March 24, leaving interim leadership of the company to chairman of the board Donald Breeding.
