The Boeing 777-200LR, the world’s longest range commercial airplane, completed its first intercontinental flight last Friday as it arrived here at Le Bourget. Last week in Montreal, the second 777-200LR prototype launched its “Going the Distance” tour of more than 20 cities in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Australia and North America.

U.S. Federal Aviation Administration certification of the Bell 210, a single-turbine medium helicopter derived from military UH-1H Huey, is imminent and could happen this month, Bell CEO Mike Redenbaugh said yesterday at the Paris Air Show. “Our flight testing is completed, the FAA pilots have flown and now we’re just waiting for approval of the paperwork,” he said.

Europrop International (EPI) performed the first TP400-D6 engine control and monitoring system (CMS) test in Villaroche late in May, the consortium announced just before the show. The TP400 is the turboprop engine designed for the Airbus A400M military transport aircraft.
Among the many military trainers exhibited here at Le Bourget, the Russian Yakovlev Yak-130 light twinjet can justly claim to represent a totally new generation. Equipped with a fly-by-wire control system, three large-screen 6- by 8-inch multifunctional liquid crystal displays and claiming an ability to replicate the performance of any combat aircraft, the Yak-130 should arguably be on the wish list of procurement departments.
“It’s not a special process and we are following the same principles that we would for a small aircraft. The physics are the same,” said Dr. Norbert Lohl, certification director for the European Aviation Safety Agency, giving a somewhat modest assessment of the task his team has taken on to approve the world’s largest commercial airliner, the Airbus A380.
