MedAire said it has become the “first in the world” ready to receive remote vital-sign medical-monitoring data from civil aircraft in flight. The company’s first subscriber for this service is British Midland Airways, which will equip all of its long-haul flights with the Tempus 2000 remote vital-sign monitor from London-based Remote Diagnostic Technologies.

NBAA and the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) have submitted comments on the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) “twelve-five” program, requesting a delay in the June 24 implementation date. The new rule applies to transport-category (12,500-lb mtow and above) air-taxi operators when passengers or crew are enplaning or deplaning in an airport’s “sterile” area (generally the airline ramp or terminal and its gates).

The Burbank, Calif., airport authority is considering using an FAA noise study to expand an overnight curfew at Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport (BUR). The draft proposal is contained in an ongoing FAA Part 161 noise study typically required before an airport can implement aircraft operating restrictions. The Burbank proposal would close the airport to all operations– regardless of aircraft noise level–between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

On May 8 a Beechjet 400 (N400GJ) operated by Georgia Jet was substantially damaged when it struck birds while departing from Runway 6L at Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport. The crew did not see any birds on or around the runway as the jet began its takeoff roll. When the aircraft reached V1, birds hit the airplane and the pilot aborted the takeoff, bringing the Beechjet to a stop about 100 ft before the end of the runway.

McKinney Municipal Airport in Dallas has been added to the list of the U.S. Customs Service’s designated user-fee airports. Operators must obtain advance permission to clear customs at user-fee facilities, which unlike international or landing rights airports are not staffed with full-time, government-paid customs agents.

Duncan Aviation recently received FAA approval and Honeywell authorization to perform major periodic inspections (MPIs) on the TFE731-20/40/60 turbofan engine. The Lincoln, Neb., company has for more than 20 years been a Honeywell-authorized major service center providing MPIs on the TFE731-2/3/4/5 engines.

Gulfstream is now delivering the G200 standard with a thermal/acoustic interior, which is said to reduce both aircraft weight and cabin noise levels. The weight saving is at least 150 lb, according to Gulfstream. Acoustical testing is planned for later this month and measured noise is expected to be about 55 dB on the speech-interference-level scale.
