India business aviation show

After years of frustration, India’s business aviation community is hoping that a new report due to be published next month will trigger a sea change in government policy toward the industry. A team of representatives from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation is preparing for business and general aviation in India a blueprint that could form the foundation for a more transparent and consistent approach to both regulating and stimulating the industry.

“The business aviation market is just starting to recover,” Teal Group vice president for aerospace analysis Richard Aboulafia said this morning during an aerospace and defense outlook teleconference hosted by Desjardins Capital Markets. “Companies are making record profits and are literally stuffing about 7 percent of this cash under their mattresses,” meaning many have available capital that could be readily deployed to purchase business jets. He is also encouraged by the declining inventories of pre-owned business aircraft.

Sikorsky president Jeff Pino presented his company’s 2011 results and 2012 outlook last week, and the outlook suggests that strong deliveries of the S-92 medium twin will boost civil activity this year. Pino is expecting S-92 handovers to leap by 42 percent and overall civil activity by approximately 30 percent, while overall total sales (military and civil) will fall by 5 percent.

Jet Aviation is discontinuing completions of Dassault Falcons at its Basel, Switzerland facility, after the center had outfitted more than 130 Falcons under contract with Dassault Aviation, due to lack of demand, according to Jet Aviation spokesman Heinz Aebi.

Jet Aviation has been doing cabin completion work for the French OEM since 1996, including the Falcon 50, 900, 2000 and 7X models. According to Aebi, the 132ndFalcon business jet completed by Jet Aviation was recently delivered two weeks ahead of schedule, “with no open delivery items.”

NetJets has attained Level III of the FAA’s safety management system (SMS) pilot program. As such, NetJets is the first fractional operator, as well as the first fixed-wing Part 135 operator and the first combined Part 135/91K operator, to achieve Level III. The FAA SMS pilot program, which has a four-level system of acknowledgement, is intended to help operators develop and implement a comprehensive SMS for their entire organization through safety-centric policies and risk mitigation.

The Embraer Legacy 650 recently received type certification from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India, paving the way for Legacy 650 customers to register and operate the aircraft in India. The 2012 version of the Legacy 650, which made its debut last week at India Aviation 2012 in Hyderabad, features refinements to the interior and cabin management system, including a new high-definition in-flight entertainment system–complete with media input and iPod and iPhone docking systems. It also has an avionics upgrade to the Honeywell Primus Elite suite.

Helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter has been voted France’s most attractive employer, across all sectors, for the second year running. Human resources management firm Randstad gauged the views of 12,000 respondents on more than 200 companies based in the country. Respondents rated Eurocopter as the company they would most like to work for. Criteria included financial stability, job opportunities, career and training prospects and workplace culture.

Under a partnership announced yesterday, National Car Rental will supply rental car and ground transportation solutions for Signature Flight Support’s global FBO network, effective April 1. The National Car Rental process will provide customers who belong to National’s Emerald Club with an expedited pick-up and drop-off process, Signature said. Until April 30, Signature customers who enroll in the Emerald Club program will receive a one-year complimentary upgrade to Emerald Club Executive Status.

Atlanta-based Ascension Air is now offering three fully equipped 2012 Cirrus SR22Ts to individuals and pilots through its fractional ownership program. The company’s fractional ownership program requires about $10,000 down and a monthly management fee of $2,000. Ascension’s new SR22Ts include 60/40 FlexSeating in the back seat, which includes a third over-the-shoulder seat belt allowing for a fifth passenger and 60/40 fold-down seating.
