In a move that wasn’t overly surprising, Honda Aircraft announced on February 9 that it has decided to build its world headquarters and HondaJet manufacturing plant at Piedmont-Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C., site of the company’s research and development facility.

Shipments of general aviation aircraft last year increased significantly over 2005, resulting in record highs in billings and in business jet deliveries.
For years manufacturers have been anticipating a business aviation boom in the Middle East, but a meaningful expansion of the customer base has been slow to come in that part of the world. However, judging by the proliferation of new locally owned charter operators present at the recent Middle East Business Aviation (MEBA) show in Dubai, the boom is most definitely on.
General aviation’s concerns found a firm basis last month when the FAA presented a reauthorization proposal that includes a more than 300-percent hike in the fuel tax and myriad fees for obtaining a pilot’s license, registering an airplane or receiving a medical.
