The first Gulf VIP Executive Jet, Luxury Yacht & Elite Car Interiors Exhibition will take place at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre from March 3 to 5, 2009. To date, a number of globally recognized companies have confirmed their interest in Gulf VIP 2009. Almost 124,000 sq ft of exhibition space has been allocated and the organizers expect more than 150 exhibitors and 5,000 visitors.

Project Phoenix, which is offering Bombardier CRJs reconfigured as business jets, has concluded an agreement with MedAire that will see aircraft owners being offered a complimentary medical package, including a one-year subscription to the 24/7 MedLink global response center.

Gore Design Completions (Stand No. 900) will next summer begin the full refurbishment and reconfiguration of the interior of an Airbus A340-200 for a Middle Eastern client of MAZ Aviation (Chalet No. 19). The deal was announced yesterday by MAZ chairman Mohammed Al-Zeer, along with Jerry and Kathy Gore of the U.S.-based completion specialist.

Abu Dhabi-based Prestige Jet (Chalet No. 23) is expanding its air ambulance business to cater for a strong surge in demand for its medical evacuation and repatriation services. Yesterday, the company announced the formation of a new subsidiary, Prestige Flight Ambulance (PFA), which will make a dedicated Bombardier Challenger 604 and Learjet 55 available around the clock to carry patients to and from the United Arab Emirates.

Comlux Aviation is set to further boost its standing as the world’s largest operator of Airbus corporate and VIP aircraft with the announcement of another new order here at the MEBA show today. At the same time, the Swiss-based group has been expanding its business aviation services portfolio by increasing its cabin completions capability.

Business aviation will be an important facet of the new Bahrain Airshow to be staged in the Arabian Gulf state from January 21 to 23, 2010. The show will feature purpose-built chalets in front of which exhibitors will be able to park their display aircraft.

Bombardier is making plans to open a pilot training facility for its business aircraft family here in the Middle East. Dubai has been earmarked as the likely venue for the new center and, according to Khader Mattar, the Canadian airframer’s vice president for Middle East and Africa, it could be open before the end of next year.

Satellite communications specialist EMS Satcom (Stand No. 113) has introduced its new eNfusion AMT-700 high-gain antenna (HGA). The new tail-mounted antenna promises higher gain than competing antennas of similar size and weight.

The Canadian company designed the antenna with Inmarsat’s new SwiftBroadband high-speed Internet service in mind. EMS’s existing AMT-50 HGA antenna is already flying on more than 1,400 aircraft.

Grob Aerospace has withdrawn from the MEBA show after its German manufacturing division formally declared insolvency on November 1. Swiss parent company Grob AG, itself, is on the verge of also being declared insolvent.

Here at the MEBA show, Royal Jet is expected to announce plans  to further increase its fleet. The Abu Dhabi-based company is likely to commit to more aircraft in both the VIP airliner and super-midsize classes. It may also confirm plans to establish one or more new bases in the Gulf region to address a shortage of FBO and maintenance facilities, as well as introducing other new services.
