Global charter broker Air Partner has acquired UK executive charter operator Gold Air for $8.1 million. From its base at London Biggin Hill Airport, Gold Air operates six Learjet 45s and a Hawker 800 and has two Global 5000s on order for delivery in 2009.

Four of the 16 occupants (including one crewmember) died when a British Aerospace 146-200A regional jet overran the runway and burned at Stord-Sorstokken Airport, Norway, on Tuesday. Operated by Atlantic Airways, the 19-year-old aircraft (OY-CRG) reportedly had been chartered by Aker Kvaerner to transport 12 of the Norwegian industrial company’s personnel from Stavanger-Sola to Molde via Stord.

Jet Aviation and its newly acquired affiliate Midcoast Aviation completed the restructuring of the group’s MRO and FBO business in North America. Four of Jet Aviation’s MRO divisions in Bedford, Mass.; Chicago; Palm Beach, Fla.; and Teterboro, N.J.; have been merged into Midcoast Aviation, while Midcoast’s St. Louis Downtown Airport FBO is now operated by Jet Aviation.

A new FAA Safety Alert for Operators (SAFO 06014) has been published to emphasize that if pilots plan to take off with polished frost on the wings or control surfaces as currently permitted by regulations, they should do so only in accordance with an aircraft manufacturer’s approved procedures.

The FAA is trying to interview the pilot of a non-U.S. registered Gulfstream V involved in a Class A runway incursion at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on September 30. During the incident, a departing SkyWest Airlines CRJ700 stopped within about 100 feet of the Gulfstream, which was on the same runway. The Gulfstream then continued on its planned flight to Long Beach, according to an FAA spokesman.
