The Yakovlev design bureau plans to build another 12 examples of the Yak-130 advanced trainer, which is on display in the static park here, during the next two years, according to general director Oleg Demchenko, who is also chairman of Irkut Corporation.

ITT Industries is showcasing its modular scalable electronic-warfare and self-protection systems that can be tailored for use on fixed- and rotary-wing platforms ranging from the Special Forces’ C-130s to the new NH 90 helicopter, soon to enter service.

EADS has initiated talks with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) with a view to offering the T-50 for the Eurotrainer requirement. A team from EADS visited KAI last month to discuss the modifications that would be necessary to “Europeanize” the advanced trainer that is already in production for the RoKAF, and a return visit by a Korean delegation is planned.
Making its first flight just days before the show, the Beechcraft King Air 350ER special mission aircraft is making a debut appearance here at Le Bourget. Building on Raytheon’s extensive experience in producing some 3,000-plus aircraft in this category, the 350ER differs from its predecessors in offering a total solution in terms of both platform and payload.
One of the helicopters gracing Eurocopter’s static display here at the Paris Air Show is a bright red-and-yellow EC 135 belonging to Norsk Luftambulanse (Norwegian Air Ambulance). The air medical helicopter is the company’s eighth EC 135. It also operates three BO 105 CBS helicopters and has an EC 145 on order, with delivery expected in October.
Following its success in securing contracts to supply wing and fuselage components for the Airbus A380 from its Emmen, Switzerland plant, Ruag Aerospace has achieved a further success in its aerospace construction. A new order from Airbus makes Ruag the sole supplier of Section 15 fuselage side panels for all aircraft in the A320 family.
Elbit’s El-Op division has developed a laser radar system capable of detecting obstacles. Called LORD (laser obstacle ranging and display), the system is capable of detecting such obstacles as electrical wires and antennas, thus providing real-time alerts to pilots flying low level in adverse weather conditions. El-Op has built up considerable experience in the development of eyesafe lasers based on optical fibers.
BVR Systems is here at the Paris Air Show with an on-board avionics and environment simulator called EVA–which stands for embedded virtual avionics. The Israeli EVA system provides the pilot with a virtual radar, including air-to-air and air-to-ground modes, virtual weapons, a virtual electronic warfare (EW) suite that can simulate flare dispensing and virtual sensors.
Elbit Systems subsidiary Cyclone Aviation has completed its acquisition of the Aircraft Systems division of Israel Military Industries. An aircraft engineering, maintenance and upgrade specialist, Cyclone bought the IMI subsidiary to broaden its product-line offering, which now includes external fuel tanks and pylons for the F-15 and F-16 fighter jets and a vertical ejection bomb rack for the F-16.
