MBDA, the missile manufacturer owned by BAE Systems, EADS and Finmeccanica, has appointed Antoine Bouvier as its new chief executive. He replaces Marwan Lahoud. Bouvier was most recently chief executive officer of EADS Astrium Satellites, a post he took up in 2002, and before that he held senior positions at ATR culminating in his becoming chief executive in 1998.

Aircraft leasing company General Electric Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS) has converted options held on six GE90-110B1L-powered Boeing 777F cargo aircraft, bringing its 777 fleet to 39, of which 15 have been delivered. The latest order, which can be changed to cover passenger variants, brings GECAS 777F orders to 14 and its total Boeing fleet to 378.
Despite a successful outing at the EBACE business aviation trade show a mere three weeks ago in Geneva, Cessna and other business jet makers view the Paris Air Show as an important venue. The new Eurocopter AS 355 NP Ecureuil on display here at Le Bourget will shortly be delivered to the first customer, Scandinavian Helicopter Group. The Swedish operator uses its fleet of rotorcraft mainly for passenger transport and aerial work.

Some two months after announcing the relaunch of 19-seat Twin Otter production, Canada’s Viking Aerospace has begun cutting metal on the first unit at its final assembly plant in Calgary. Scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2009 to Zurich’s Zimex Aviation, the first Twin Otter 400 will look virtually identical to the operator’s “legacy” Twin Otter 300s.
Embraer is here at Le Bourget exhibiting a 170/175 regional airliner, its super-midsize Legacy 600 executive jet and scale models of its new four-seat Phenom 100 very light jet and nine-passenger Phenom 300 light jet. Production rates and deliveries of its regional jets and Legacy (the 100th twinjet was delivered in March) are picking up following difficulties with suppliers, and activity continues in China.
Sikorsky is readying its X2 compound helicopter demonstrator for first flight in late 2007 or early 2008, the U.S. manufacturer announced here at the Paris Air Show. The hybrid design, which looks like a helicopter with two contrarotating coaxial main rotors and one tail propulsor, already had its fly-by-wire system tested in a small Schweizer 333 helicopter. The actual X2 has undergone engine and drive train ground tests.
