By the time you read this, I hope the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers (IAM), Comair and the FAA have reached agreement and reinstituted the maintenance Aviation Safety Action Program (Asap) at Comair. It’s a sad day indeed for air safety when a voluntary program with so much safety potential becomes the pawn in a labor-management disagreement and the FAA is unable or unwilling to mediate the dispute effectively.

Construction is well under way on JCB Aero's new aircraft interior completion and refurbishment center scheduled to open this fall near l'Isle Jourdain in southwest France.
The initial step is a 53,800-sq-ft hangar. A second hangar of the same size will allow the center to build its own cabin components, from cabinetry to upholstery, as well as expand its role as an aircraft interior components vendor.

Independent completion and refurbishment center BaySys has signed an agreement with Royal Air Maroc and "a strategic regional investor" to support development of an executive cabin maintenance facility in Casablanca, Morocco.

The consolidation of the regional airline industry continued unabated last month, as St. George, Utah-based SkyWest revealed plans to acquire Houston-based ExpressJet. The $133 million transaction will involve a direct purchase by SkyWest's Atlanta-based subsidiary, Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA), of all of ExpressJet's common shares for $6.75 each in cash.

Frank Robinson feigned insult when asked about his possible retirement at a 2009 press conference.
“Why?” Robinson shot back with a grin when asked about it. “You know what [the late comedian] Jack Benny said when they asked him what he was going to do with all that money when he died? He said, ‘If I can’t take it with me I won’t go.’ He didn’t need [a retirement] and I think I don’t either.”

Sandel Avionics last month announced TSO approval for its HeliTaws helicopter terrain warning system. Sandel said that with radio altitude and air-data computer inputs, HeliTaws will meet or exceed the performance of any current Taws for helicopters.
